Position Purpose: Plan, direct and control the efforts of the Maintenance and Engineering Departments to maintain plant equipment and facilities commensurate with good, safe engineering practices. Direct the mechanical and electrical maintenance and repair program buildings through subordinate supervisor. Plan and prioritize master work schedule. Prepare and administer the facility budget. Provides technical and managerial direction, guidance and council to develop and achieve the plant and equipment projects in accordance with the desired costs, quality and performance objectives. Provides leadership for the Engineering Department. Must stay abreast of new equipment/operating technology, business direction and business strategies to assure consistency of effort and objectives between the plant and the leadership.
Principle Accountabilities
- Develop, maintain and administer an organization qualified to maintain all equipment and facilities in a safe and efficient working condition. Execute an effective preventive maintenance program to minimize unscheduled down time.
- Maintain all operating equipment in satisfactory condition. Schedule needed repair to have minimum interference.
- Assure that production equipment is capable of producing within the established specifications and tolerances.
- Coordinate the efficient operation of all facilities necessary to the distribution and usage of electric power, natural gas and water.
- Develop objectives and standards of performance for projects within the Maintenance Department required to meet departmental, divisional and corporate goals and objectives.
- Plan and provide for an adequate supply and ensure control over spare parts and maintenance supplies.
- Coordinate work for major usage change.
- Train, supervise and evaluate Maintenance staff.
- Leader in providing an environment that puts a priority on a safe and healthy workplace for employees and conforms to applicable local, state, and federal codes and laws governing loss control.
- Ensure safe work practices and work environment.
- Prepare and administer the facility and capital expenditure budget.
- Provide annual capital plan leadership.
- Plan and install maintenance capital projects.
- Ensures that maintenance safety practices and procedures are followed. Organize and manage the Engineering areas as an effective, motivated, responsive unit which can provide timely and competent technical, engineering service to efficiently support the plant operating and business objectives.
- Prepare and manage the P&E Budget to meet time, cost, quality and performance objectives.
- Develop and implement continuing cost improvement plans and programs that ensure continuity or a competitive and profitable manufacturing facility.
- Position assets to support growth initiatives through optimal balance of sustaining, cost saving and strategic capital spending. Assets (materials/inventories, equipment, personnel) properly managed, maintained and developed.
- Any other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a minimum of 8 years of experience in equipment maintenance in a manufacturing environment.
- At least 5 years in a management role.
- Previous PSM (Process Safety Management) experience preferred.
- Looking for an outgoing "people" person.
- Organizational competencies and project management skills to keep projects, processes, and personnel on track.
- Self-motivated attitude with the ability to multitask and thrive in a timeline-driven environment.
- Extensive knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, tools, equipment and materials used in plant maintenance and repair.
- Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of supervision.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to read and understand plans and blueprints.
- Thorough knowledge of maintenance reliability.
- Must have expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g., word processing, email and spreadsheets.
- Ability to work effectively with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and instruct others on its operation.
