What are the responsibilities and job description for the Referral Coordinator position at Interventional Radiation Oncology of California?
Objective Summary:
Medical Assistants help patients by providing information, services, and assistance. Other duties include: securing medical records; performing support functions for the radiation therapists.
Essential Functions:
1. Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; recording medical history; confirming
purpose of visit.
2. Prepare or construct equipment, such as immobilization, treatment, or protection devices.
3. Position patients for Simulation and Treatment with accuracy, according to prescription.
4. Accompany patients to examination or treatment room, interview patients, measure vital signs, update patient information and changes in medical history, and prepare patient for examination
and/or treatment
5. Know and use universal precautions. Dispose of contaminated supplies appropriately.
6. Secures patient information and maintains patient confidence by completing and safeguarding medical records; completing diagnostic coding and procedure coding; keeping patient information
confidential.
7. Counsels patients by transmitting physician's orders and questions about therapy.
8. Schedules surgeries by making arrangements with the cancer center; verifying times withpatients; preparing charts, pre-admission and consent forms.
9. Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by establishing and following standardsand procedures; complying with legal regulations.
10. Understand provider-to-patient flow to assist physicians and radiation therapists inmaintaining an efficient, productive office
11. Create and maintain relationships of confidence and trust with new and existing patients
12. Utilize spare time in work-related activities that contribute to the clinic’s needs.
13. Maintain/update accurate and secure electronic patient medical records
14. Maintain patient records for clinical use, medical records use, billing use, physicians review, etc., and assist in the transition from hardcopy to digital formatting
15. Develop and maintain accurate scheduling databases for patient appointments to communicate, manage knowledge, mitigate error, and support decision-making
16. Contribute to continuous process improvement by taking an active role in patient experience and satisfaction
17. Adhere to all policies, procedures, and regulations as outlined in the Policy and Procedure Manual, OSHA, HIPAA, and Code of Conduct
Required Qualifications:
1. Graduate of formal program in vocational-technical high schools, postsecondary vocational schools, and community and junior colleges.
2. CPR certified
Preferred Qualifications:
3. Two years of Medical Assistant experience
4. Phlebotomy experience
5. Radiation Therapy Assistant experience
