We are hiring an Assistant Controller, hybrid to the Des Moines, IA area.
The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the activities within the accounting team; including but not limited to the general ledger, financial reporting, journal entries and reconciliations.
Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure.
2. Ensure the timely completion of daily and monthly accounting functions.
3. Prepare monthly journal entries and reconciliations.
4. Drive continuous improvement focusing on streamlining, improving and automating processes.
5. Establish internal controls to mitigate risk.
6. Documentation of accounting procedures.
7. Manage the consolidation process including the recording of consolidating entries, reconciliation of intercompany and investment in subsidiary.
8. Assist in execution of key department initiatives as requested.
9. Select, manage, coach and develop accounting team.
10. Interface with external auditors and tax preparer for periodic financial reviews, controls testing and other inquiries.
11. Maintain regulatory compliance for tax, licenses, unclaimed property, etc.
12. Develop and maintain interdepartmental partnerships.
13. All other ad hoc analysis and duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
2. 5 years of job experience.
3. Ability to think analytically to identify qualitative or quantitative trends and recommend appropriate actions.
4. Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously while paying close attention to detail.
5. Excel proficiency critical. Microsoft Access, SQL Server Reporting Services, and/or other database reporting skills a plus.
6. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
7. International experience a plus.
