Job Summary
:
The Upper School Library Assistant will provide a safe, nurturing, and enriched library environment for students grade 7-12 during library evening and weekend hours between 4:00pm and 9:30pm
(Monday-Thursday), 4:00pm and 6:00pm (Friday), and 7:30pm and 9:30pm (Sunday). The staff member will supervise students during their time in the library, assisting them as needed with library-related or study tasks. The staff member may also assist with the planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
:
- Collaborates and communicates with the Director of Library Services and the Dean of Residential Programs to ensure that the library is safe, nurturing, and responsive to student needs.

Actively monitors students for safety and appropriate behavior.

Fosters healthy rapport with and between the students.

Keeps records of library user numbers and activities in the library.

Monitors study time by circulating throughout the study area.

Shelve, locate, check in, and check out library materials, as well as other circulation tasks.

Plans and implements appropriate activities.

Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
:
- Related experience and/or training preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills with students as well as adults .
Ability to handle interruptions and multiple demands .
Ability to be certified in first aid/CPR or other emergency procedures.
Physical Requirements
:
- Ability to see and hear within normal parameters with or without correction.
- Full leg and arm mobility (walking, ability to access overhead shelves).

Full range of head and neck movement.

Unrestricted ability to bend knees, raise arms above the head, and to move hands, fingers, and wrist.
- Ability to lift, carry, and/or move up to 30 pounds without difficulty.
- Ability to sit for extended periods; and ability to stand and/or walk for sustained periods of time.
Due to work in close proximity to children, must pass fingerprinting and background clearance checks. TB clearance required.
