Job Description Communications manager
- Develop internal and external communications ensuring an engaging, compelling and consistent messaging.
- Prepare press releases, news stories, profile stories, talking points, email communications and content for web, social media, and marketing materials.
- Develop and maintain reporter database, monitor media for relevant opportunities, pitch faculty and/or Iona experts and events for media coverage and track media metrics.
- Prepare monthly media reports of University coverage.
- Draft and design internal email communications on a wide range of University topics, including but not limited to weekly Campus Announcements, Basketball and Athletics promotions, and other breaking news updates.
- Position will report to the Senior Director of Communications and work closely with the University Marketing & Communications team.
Skills Required:
- Ability to write clearly and concisely for both internal and external audiences.
- Ability to generate exciting story ideas and execute from concept to completion with a passion for storytelling.
- Must be a motivated individual who can work independently as well as collaboratively as part of the team.
- Ability to meet tight deadlines and prioritize competing requests.
- Desire to uncover new story ideas that will further distinguish Iona by actively engaging with various constituents all across campus.
- Impeccable copywriting and copyediting skills with knowledge of AP Stylebook.
- Organization and project management skills.
- Understanding of communications and social media trends.
- Effective time management skills and the ability to multitask with flexibility.
- Attention to detail.
Experience Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in public relations, journalism, communications, marketing or related field.
- 2-4 years of prior experience in communications role preferred.
- Knowledge of basic video shooting and editing skills.
- Experience pitching and working with media.
