Job Summary:
The Laborer – Environmental & Access Solutions will be responsible for completing all labor tasks in a safe and efficient manner. This position requires knowledge/experience of the Matting Industry, Right-Of-Way Construction, and Erosion and Sediment Control. The Laborer will be required to work in all weather, including both extreme heat and cold environments. This position requires extensive travel across New York state, applicants must be willing and able to travel up to 75% of the time. The pay for this position is $19 - $24 per hour depending on experience.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Act as a flagger: stand in position at the site and watch for road traffic to protect equipment, employees, and public
- Act as a spotter for heavy equipment operators: must have a clear understanding of ground signals and maintain constant eye contact with equipment operators.
- Install erosion and sediment control devices.
- Drive wood stakes into the ground with hand tools
- Apply grass seed, fertilizer and lime to work areas.
- Apply straw blanket and straw to restored ground areas.
- Sweep and shovel mud and debris off construction roads.
- Install posts and fencing.
- Clean track equipment
- Load and unload construction material and tools
- Remove debris from right-of-way access.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- One or more years of experience in construction.
- OSHA 10 certification or the ability to obtain upon hiring.
- Must be able to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work tasks such as rain, heat, sun, cold, snow.
- Ability to travel out of town during the week or on weekends and work overtime as required.
- Knowledge of safety hazards on construction projects.
- Valid driver’s license required, CDL preferred.
- Possess a current medical examiner’s certificate or the ability to pass a DOT physical.
- Ability to report to work at the designated location and start time.
