Job Description What you can expect in a typical day It takes a dedicated, hardworking team to keep Canada’s largest refinery operating smoothly. We are looking to expand our team again by hiring Refinery Facilities Technicians to work on-site at our refinery in Saint John, NB. As a Refinery Facilities Technician, you will handle all materials from crude oil to refined products. If you have a mechanical aptitude, a technical background, or are experienced in a trade, we will train you to be a Refinery Facilities Technician. Prepare work orders, hot work, and fresh air permits. Assist more experienced facilities technicians on complex tasks as an apprentice, e.g. the planned shutdown of a unit. Perform routine tasks under the guidance of a senior facility technician, e.g. monitor levels, temperatures, and pressures within various units to ensure equipment is functioning at peak efficiency. Perform general refinery technician duties as required to learn refinery processes. Collect samples, monitor, and test products to ensure quality meets required specifications. Actively participate in housekeeping activities. . What you’ll need to succeed Safety as-a-way-of-life mindset; no shortcuts. Willing to and want to continuously learn. Willing and able to be certified in a field job – you will have an assigned mentor and trainer. Willing and able to be trained on Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG). This includes a high degree of accuracy for all documentation related to TDG. Ability to think, solve problems, and troubleshoot issues within process operations. Strong Communication skills is critical Strong teamwork skills. Ability to handle stress; able to react quickly in various situations and know when to escalate. Able to make focused, quick decisions within your scope of knowledge. Able to plan, prioritize, and work towards deadlines Comfortable learning new software systems; willing to go beyond what’s required. Able to work rotating 12 hour shifts, day and night, outside in the plant, year-round in all types of weather. Able to bend, stoop, crawl, lift up to 40lbs, enter confined spaces, climb ladders up to 50’. Valid, class 5 driver’s license. Travel Travel is not a requirement for this role. Education and experience Post-secondary education in Process Controls, Process Engineering, Engineering Technology, apprenticeship in a Trade or technical role. Mechanical background and aptitude.
