Assistant Principal
Purpose of Position/Summary:
The Assistant Principal serves as a key member of the school administration team. This role is largely involved with building operations, student wellbeing initiatives, behavior, and attendance. The Assistant Principal is a critical part of the leadership operations team and works cooperatively with corporate administration, teachers, students, parents and the community to support the academic success of our students.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Monitors school climate and contributes to positive school culture in accordance with The Irvington Way.

Serves as the voice of the school in the absence of or along with the Principal.

Oversees all disciplinary issues referred by classroom teachers regarding any misbehavior detrimental to the learning environment, including extreme disrespect, insubordination, and unsafe/violent acts. Conducts performance management meetings and maintains documentation for any direct reports.

Serves on the building administration team.

Assists in strategic planning and event planning as a member of the building leadership

Is a presence during key times in the school day, which includes greeting students in the morning, frequenting the hallways- especially when students are passing to culture classes- monitoring the lunchroom, and working traffic management at dismissal.

Supports Irvington Community Schools Corporate programs and initiatives as a representative of ICES

Assists with planning and presentations at staff meetings and professional development as appropriate based on topic and scope of responsibility.

Participates in the planning and production of official school documents such as the student handbook

Attends after-hours school events, such as conferences, open houses and orientations.

Serves as Public Agency Representative for ICS in student case conferences as needed.

Monitors and assures student compliance with school rules and expectations.

Serves as emergency responder in times of need.

Commits to ongoing professional development in research-based behavior management strategies.

Oversees documentation related to behavior management, including but not limited to spreadsheets, student files, and communication records.

Analyzes behavior referral data to identify trends.

Oversees all realms of school safety, including but not limited to building security, student safety during dismissal, appropriate student-to-student interactions, and emergency scenarios.

Communicates with families when absences and tardies reach a critical stage.

Preparers attendance reports for the IDOE and the charter authorizer OEI.

Assures student well-being through home visits as needed

Works closely with all faculty members in providing behavior management support.

Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in education related field is required.
-
Master’s degree in school administration and Indiana state administrator’s license is preferred.

5 years classroom teaching experience is preferred.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.
-
Ability to lead people effectively.
-
Ability to adapt when unforeseen schedule changes or complications arise.

Knowledge of Charter schools and the special challenges they face.
-
Strong organization and self-motivation skills.
