Islamic Relief is seeking a qualified Grant Accountant to work in the Finance Department on grants and finance at IRUSA headquarters in Alexandria, Virginia. The Grant Accountant will be responsible for maintaining ledger accounts and for developing financial statements and reports related to grants for Islamic Relief USA.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Performs grant-related pre- and post-award functions, including budget and expense analysis, periodic invoicing, financial reporting, labor distribution changes and associated communications for customers, reconciliations, and re-budgeting.
- Performs grant closeout functions required by the Grants and Contracts Administration and sponsors, including reconciliations, financial status reports, final invoices, purchase order liquidations, zeroing-out budgets, and final reporting.
- Reviews general ledger transactions to ensure accuracy and completes journal entries.
- Performs collection efforts to insure payments are received from sponsoring agencies in accordance with payment terms, and booking/monitoring cash receipts/AR, as necessary.
- Completes journal entries and other types of corrections to grant funds.
- Analysis of systematic reporting submitted by international and/or domestic partner(s) to validate and approve further disbursements for specific projects, and any additional program funding.
- Acts as liaison with external auditors for A-133 Compliance Audit.
- Prepares detailed reports pertaining to discrepancies and amendments that occurred in the budget, during the entire financial year.
- Develops and documents a set of policies and procedures for the position.
- Coordinates problem resolution and provides technical guidance/training to other finance staff.
- Reviews payments charged to grants for conformity to budget, calculates indirect costs and matching costs and charges those costs to grants monthly.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Competencies:
- BS or BA in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft office suite.
- Financial Edge experience a plus.
- Knowledge of CIRCULAR A-110, 122 and 133 and financial operations, laws, and terminology.
- Knowledge of federal and non-federal regulations and operation policies.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a high degree of analytical ability.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Accounting and bookkeeping skills.
- Strong computer skills and ability to design, analyzes, and prepares financial reports.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.
