Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia’s capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Military Support Specialist is responsible for maintaining VA certifications for Reynolds Community College. As the certifying official, this role assists the primary School Certifying Official with processing the request certifications within the VA policy guidelines and institutional procedures. This individual is expected to play a key role in providing a positive environment and superior customer service in the Military Resource Center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the lead School Certifying Official with the processing of the VA educational certifications. Interprets and advises all students regarding Reynolds certification process. Verifies the accuracy of enrollment data and confirms the eligibility of each VA student certified based on overall program. Input certification data into the VCCS and VA Databases. Maintains appropriate certification records and supporting documents in accordance with the DoD MOU VA Regulations, State Approving Agency and Reynolds policies.
- Researches and responds to all inquiries regarding all VA certifications. Contacts the VA on behalf of the VA students to resolve and/or clarify discrepancies. Participates in VA and State ongoing training, informational sessions, and professional development regarding changes and updates to VA policies, procedures, and system related to educational benefits.
- Deliver exceptional customer service both over the phone and in person, demonstrating the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Prepare or assist with the preparation of external and internal audits and the 85/15 report.
- Assists with the Military Resource Center’s campus programs and events, as well as community outreach efforts, to enhance enrollment of veteran and military-connected students.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal veteran’s programs and educational benefits that are provided to veterans and the family or spouse of a veteran.
- Demonstrated ability to establish relationships and collaborate effectively with diverse students, staff, faculty, administrators and the community.
- Demonstrates the ability to organize and manage work and meet deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills.
