Job Summary:
JACOA is seeking a dedicated Certified Peer Recovery Specialist to serve as a liaison between our organization and the Jackson Madison County School System (JMCSS). This position plays a critical role in promoting substance use awareness, overdose prevention, and community education. The Peer Recovery Specialist will collaborate with state and local organizations to provide training, resources, and outreach initiatives that support individuals impacted by substance use disorder.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the primary liaison between JACOA and JMCSS, fostering relationships with school staff, administrators, and community stakeholders.
- Organize and facilitate naloxone training for all JMCSS teachers, staff, and administrators in collaboration with a State of Tennessee Regional Overdose Prevention Specialist.
- Oversee the execution, promotion, and scheduling of a quarterly community education outreach program, including:
- Securing a venue rental for “town hall” meetings.
- Coordinating guest speakers.
- Providing snacks and refreshments
- Preparing and distributing printed educational handouts.
- Identify and engage with high-risk “hotspot” areas in Madison County to deliver Tennessee state-approved educational and training materials related to substance use prevention and recovery.
- Work closely with JACOA leadership to align community outreach efforts with the organization’s mission and goals.
- Maintain accurate records of trainings, outreach events, and resource distribution.
- Stay informed on best practices and new developments in overdose prevention, harm reduction, and peer recovery support.
- Provide peer support and advocacy for individuals and families affected by substance use disorder.
- Make scheduled phone calls to JACOA alumni to check on their current status, update information, and offer continued support and resources.
- Any additional duties to expand or develop this program assigned by the Director of Outpatient Services
Qualifications:
- Certified Peer Recovery Specialist (CPRS) credential is required.
- Experience working in substance use treatment, peer recovery support, or community outreach preferred.
- Strong public speaking and training facilitation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Ability to organize and manage events, including coordinating logistics and outreach efforts.
- Knowledge of local resources and services related to substance use disorder and harm reduction.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for community outreach activities.
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Full-time position with a flexible schedule to accommodate training sessions, community meetings, and outreach efforts.
- Some evening and weekend work required for town hall meetings and community events.
- Frequent local travel to schools, community centers, and outreach sites within Madison County, TN.
