Description
The Concrete Superintendent will be responsible for the expert pouring, leveling, and smoothing of concrete on a variety of surfaces, including roads, sidewalks, curbs, and floors. This is a hands-on position where you will be expected to actively participate with the concrete team, assisting with pours and finishing work. You will lead the daily operations of Jamestown Concrete, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to the highest standards. This role requires a strong understanding of concrete techniques, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to effectively manage a team.
Responsibilities:
- Hands-On Concrete Work: Actively participate in all aspects of concrete placement and finishing, including pouring, leveling, smoothing, and curing.
- Formwork and Preparation: Design and build forms, set forms to hold concrete, clean and inspect surfaces for pouring issues, and patch existing surfaces.
- Concrete Placement and Finishing: Direct the casting of concrete with truck drivers, pour, smooth, and level concrete using various tools (rake, trowel, float, screed, power tools).
- Curing and Finishing: Monitor the effects of weather on curing, apply sealing and hardening components, mold and construct expansion joints, polish surfaces, and add decorative finishes.
- Reinforcement and Mixes: Understand and utilize proper reinforcement (wire mesh, rebar), and possess familiarity with various concrete mixes.
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate power vibrators, power surfacing machines, and other small handheld power tools.
- Leadership and Supervision: Oversee daily work of Jamestown Concrete, supervise and train workers, communicate clear instructions, and provide hand signals to equipment operators.
- Planning and Execution: Read plans and concrete details, layout from surveys, practice forward thinking with pouring technology, and follow written and verbal instructions.
- Safety and Compliance: Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including PPE use, and adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Performance Management: Complete annual employee performance appraisals.
- Problem Solving and Decision Making: Utilize effective time management, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
- Communication and Collaboration: Maintain effective written and verbal communication, and work collaboratively and independently.
- Travel: Ability to travel to job sites and suppliers.
- Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years of work experience as a concrete laborer or mason.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Knowledge of the proper use of reinforcement on concrete.
- Valid Driver’s License.
