Description

Jefferson County Open Space’s (JCOS) Heritage Stewardship Team is seeking a Museum Program Intern to support the efforts of the JCOS Heritage Education Specialist. The intern will support the development, delivery and evaluation of educational programs and events. This internship offers hands-on experience in museum operations, community engagement, and program development and coordination. Ideal for students or recent graduates in Museum Studies, Public History, or History. The preferred candidate will have a strong sense of Colorado history.

Jefferson County Open Space contributes to city and park district projects, has preserved more than 57,000 acres, and manages 27 open space parks and more than 269 miles of trails in Jefferson County, Colorado. Visit the Jeffco Open Space park system map for more information.

The Heritage Stewardship Team is tasked with the protection and management of cultural and paleontological resources on Open Space properties including 365 cultural sites, 34 paleontological sites, and more than a hundred historic buildings and structures including the Hiwan Museum located at Hiwan Heritage Park.

The ideal candidate will be someone who has experience working within museum programming and community engagement.

Schedule

This is a temporary, part-time position of 12-14 hours per week with a flexible schedule. This position will be required to report to Evergreen and may be able to occasionally work remotely. This position will involve programming across all of the Jeffco Open Space parks.

Compensation

Hiring Range: $17.00-$20.00 USD Hourly

Compensation will be determined based on education, experience and skills.

Essential Duties

• Assist in planning and facilitating educational programs including history hikes, field trips, and community cultural commemorations.
• Support the creation of interpretive materials such as program outlines and tour content.
• Work with the Heritage Education Specialist to coordinate logistics for public events, including set-up, staffing, and tear-down.
• Engage with visitors, families, and community groups to promote participation in museum offerings.
• Conduct research to enhance programming content, including local history and cultural topics.
• Assist with general museum operations, including visitor services and administrative tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Active enrollment in an accredited college or university seeking a Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Museum Studies, History, Public History, or related social sciences.
  
  

OR

• Completion of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Public History, or related social sciences.
• Two years of professional experience in the museum field.
