Description
The Research Operations and Integration (ROI) analog team is looking for a Mission Support Specialist (MSS) to provide console support during analog missions and act as a subject matter expert for assigned operational tasks and hardware. The MSS prepares for mission activities based on the science complement by developing operating procedures for operational tasks and hardware used by the crew during missions, training the crew, performing mission logistics tasks, preparing hardware for use in missions, and preparing for a variety of other pre-mission activities. Post-mission, the MSS participates in mission debriefs data collections. Analog operations will require shift work while in mission and could require weekends and evening shifts.
.DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for completing all assigned training and becoming a certified console operator.
- Become a subject matter expert on assigned hardware and operational tasks for analog missions which includes writing operating procedures, understanding nominal and off-nominal operations and recovery, training HERA crew on assigned tasks, and resolving any in-mission anomalies.
- Supports console shifts for isolation missions in an assigned analog as a primary communicator to the crew or as a primary data operator which monitors experiment and operational activities for impacts to timelines and stressor plans, helps coordinate real-time anomaly resolution, creates daily mission status reports, and works real-time replan efforts with Operations Leads. .
- Writes and updates various mission readiness checklists and conducts a variety of mission preparation activities that may include mission stowage, scheduling, creating mission scenarios and performing hardware and software checkouts and data flow tests as well as preparing for crew training and baseline data collections.
- Troubleshoots IT solutions for general hardware and software including virtual reality simulations and works with IT support communicating any problems that need resolved.
- Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company's safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel.
- Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies, and procedures.
- Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the company.

Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required:
- A bachelor's degree (BS) with 2-3 years’ experience.
- Previous experience solving problems and working to develop solutions quickly.
Desired:
- Previous experience working in the NASA environment.
SKILLS/TRAINING
Required:
- Effective communication (both written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to perform in visible and stressful situations.
- Must be reliable, adaptable, and capable of working in a team environment.
- Must be able to work shifts.
Desired:
- Knowledge of science operations conducted on a flight or flight analog platform.
- Basic knowledge and ability to set-up and/or troubleshoot AV systems and computer IT interfaces and peripherals.
