The Staff Accountant is responsible for assisting the finance department in creating accurate and timely financial records for the organization. Additionally, this role will support the Development Coordinator in maintaining donor data and generating related reports, assisting with tasks in the development function.
Accounting Responsibilities :
- Assisting in monthly close functions, including preparation of journal entries, analyzing and reconciling accounts including cash, prepaid assets, accrued expenses, AR, fixed assets, donations, and deferred revenues
- Daily entry of transactions from our bank account into our accounting software
- Assisting with preparation of documents for annual audit
- Identifying areas where processes can be made more efficient and effective
- Documenting current policies and procedures where needed and ensuring that they are being followed
- Prepare reports for scheduled leadership reviews and ad-hoc reports, as needed
- Identify and drive process improvements, including the creation of standard tools, and meaningful dashboards
- Daily / weekly cash reporting and ad hoc forecasting analysis
Development Support Responsibilities - Assisting the Development Coordinator, as needed, up to 25% of your weekly time including :
Assist with the maintenance and updates of the donor database, including adding new attributes (e.g., membership status, Circle Society, mailings, etc.)Utilize Raiser's Edge (RE) global update tools or manually update records as neededScan and link gift / pledge records to donor records for donations of $5k in REScan and organize gift batches (including batch reports, checks, letters, etc.) and store them on the development drive for backupAssist with the creation of donor-related reports, ensuring that data is accurate and well-organizedKey Competencies for Success :

Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) in Accounting, Finance or Business with experience in financial reporting and analysis required, or significant experience in a financial analysis role in lieu of degreeKnowledge and Skill Requirements :
Proficient in the use of financial management software to include spreadsheets and databasesMS Office Suite (Emphasis in Excel)
Advanced skill set in MS Excel including but not limited to : Pivot Tables; VLOOKUP; Macros; “SumIF” functions, filtering and sortingAbila MIPs Accounting softwareADP or other automated payroll systems are a plusExperience with data query, data management and data visualization tools is a plus (Access, SQL, Tableau)Strong multi-tasking, critical thinking, and judgement; be able to organize and prioritize independently based on competing timelinesAbility to communicate effectively across a broad spectrum of staff, both verbally and in writingAble to adapt to and participate in change management including operational processes and new system platformsCollaborative and approachable; genuine interest in supporting colleaguesDemonstrates a commitment to diversity and an appreciation for different perspectives, experiences, and traditionsDemonstrates an ability to learn multiple systems quicklyProficiency in following software is a plusDaxko, AudienceView, Campminder, Raiser’s Edge / Blackbaud
