Journey to Safety MSW Intern
Journey to Safety (JTS), a program of Jewish Family & Children's Service (JF&CS), offers comprehensive domestic abuse services to people of all backgrounds, genders, religions, or ethnicities, while additionally providing culturally and religiously informed services to both Jewish and Russian-speaking survivors. Guided by a deep commitment to centering survivors' voices, our program works to provide high quality direct services and to raise awareness about the reality of abuse -- and available community resources – with special expertise in serving the Jewish and Russian-speaking communities.
Across JF&CS, our staff, interns, and volunteers work to lower barriers created by societal inequities such as income inequality, individual and institutional racism, and other sources of discrimination and injustice (many of which have been amplified during the pandemic). As a JTS intern, you will be using your skills to not only assist survivors and their families, but to create real social change with a deep and lasting impact.

JTS Intern Advocate Responsibilities
- As the domestic abuse intern advocate, you will use a survivor-centered, trauma-informed approach in working with a diverse cross-section of people from communities across Greater Boston and beyond.
- Direct client contact can be in-person in the community or at our offices in Waltham, virtually, or by phone, depending on client need and safety. A car and valid driver's license or other means of transportation is needed for this internship.
- Enter information into our Salesforce client data system.
- You'll provide direct services that promote survivor-centered empowerment and support. These services include crisis response, safety planning, advocacy, supportive counseling, group facilitation, ongoing case management; accompaniment to court and attorney meetings, and other relevant support for each person's specific circumstances and respond to intake calls on specific days.
- You also will provide a Jewish response when appropriate, addressing the culturally and/or religiously specific circumstances of those survivors who identify as Jewish and want to incorporate this Jewish lens into their work with us. Specific training is provided for this aspect of the job.
- Learn about community resources and facilitate referrals for program participants.
- You will receive weekly supervision from a LICSW JTS staff member as well as a full time JTS Advocate, attend relevant and required training, and participate both in JTS staff meetings and multi-program Case Coordination Team meetings.
- Paid stipend of up to $2,400 per internship year
- Access to training and agency-wide intern seminar program
- This is a three day per week internship totaling 24 hours at out Waltham Office location
- This internship is appropriate for MSW I and MSW II students. Please note that while this internship includes supportive counseling as an integral part of the Advocate role, it does not offer a more traditional provision of clinical therapy.
- Onboarding process includes background checks (CORI, SORI)
