JK Executive Strategies is proud to partner with a Western New York design-build firm, specializing in commercial construction, in search of a Controller to join its team!

This newly created role will report into the President and be responsible for managing all aspects of the company’s financial operations, including accounting, financial reporting, and compliance. The Controller will play a key role in providing strategic financial insights to the leadership and ensuring that Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting is accurate and timely. This role is crucial to supporting the Firm’s ongoing growth and success.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage all accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, payroll, and general ledger.
• Prepare accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
• Manage and analyze Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, ensuring accuracy in project costing, billing, and revenue recognition.
• Lead the month-end and year-end close processes.
• Monitor cash flow and develop strategies for financial forecasting and budgeting.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, including sales tax and payroll taxes.
• Collaborate with project managers and field operations to provide financial insights and support on job costing and budgeting.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for external auditors and prepare audit schedules as needed.
• Identify and implement process improvements to enhance financial efficiency and accuracy.
• Support leadership with financial analysis, forecasting, and strategic planning.
• Ad hoc projects and reporting as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or CMA preferred).
• 5 years of experience in a financial leadership role, preferably within the construction or manufacturing industry.
• Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including WIP reporting and job costing.
• Proficiency in accounting software (experience with Sage 300 is a plus).
• Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
• Exceptional attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Experience working in a digital environment to reduce carbon footprint while supporting data backup and business continuity through times of crises.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects.
• Proven problem solving, analytical, troubleshooting and time-management skills.
• Must exhibit discretion, confidentiality and honesty and adhere to ethics of company.

Salary Range: $90k - $120k
