Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports and corresponding analysis and information
- Establish and maintain appropriate internal control to safeguard all company assets.
- Update, monitor and manage accounting and internal control policies and procedures and supporting information systems of the company.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal financial and tax reporting requirements.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge of existing and upcoming accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Identify, approve and implement changes and improvements to automated financial and management information systems
- Lead and coordinate the preparation of financial statements, financial reports, special analyses, and information reports.
- Interact with other managers and other departments to provide consultative support on all financial/accounting matters
- Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures.
- Support the communication with insurance regulatory departments on financial matters.
- Ensure external audits and reviews and financial compliance requirements are satisfied and receive unqualified opinions.
- Monitor performance of investment advisors and adherence to policies, investment purchase and sale activity.
- Oversee and implement treasury processes and procedures, including banking, cash receipts, short-term cash management and payables.
- Monitor capital requirements and provide analysis to guide business leaders and the board of directors.
- Ensure adequate support and data is supplied to actuarial reserving. Interact with independent actuary and third parties involved in the review and monitoring of the company’s reserve position
- Provide regular communication to various departments within the organization on issues that are critical to the overall organization’s business and financial position.
- Maintains financial staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
- Responsible for training and orienting finance department staff and providing internal and/or external professional development opportunities.
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Assure corporate income tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all favorable tax codes.
- Bachelor’s Degree required; master’s degree preferred.
- CPA designation required.
- Ten to twelve years’ experience in Finance and Accounting coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments.
- Five years supervisory experience leading a team of financial professionals.
- Extensive experience GAAP and Statutory accounting and reinsurance accounting for an insurance company.
- Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems.
- Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations.
- Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports and statements,
- Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non- finance managers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products and financial software required.
- Demonstrated customer service focus / superior customer service skills.
- Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact on a professional level with internal and external personnel.
- Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes and simultaneously manage several projects.
- Results driven with strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment; and manages changing priorities effectively. Ability to work with tight timelines and firm deadlines and requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
