Job Description:
The House Supervisor provides leadership, coordination, and oversight of healthcare services while ensuring quality and safety of patient care. This role assumes hospital-wide administrative responsibility in the absence of regular leadership and serves as Incident Commander during disaster or mass casualty situations. The House Supervisor also manages hospital-wide patient flow, including admissions, discharges, and transfers, to ensure optimal care delivery.
Shift:
- 12-hour shifts (Primarily nights: 1900-0730; some variable shifts based on department needs).
- Weekends and holidays required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Hospital Leadership & Administration:
- Act as the primary administrative contact during nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Serve as Incident Commander in emergency situations.
- Liaise between patients, families, staff, and physicians to facilitate smooth hospital operations.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, regulations, and accreditation requirements.
- Escalate patient care concerns and activate medical staff chain of command when necessary.
- Patient Flow & Staffing Coordination:
- Expedite admissions, discharges, and transfers while ensuring appropriate levels of patient care.
- Assist with staffing adjustments to meet patient care needs and productivity goals.
- Provide real-time support to clinical staff for problem-solving and decision-making.
- Quality & Patient Safety:
- Monitor and uphold hospital policies and procedures to maintain high-quality care.
- Respond to patient and staff concerns and provide immediate resolution.
- Ensure timely activation of organ donation protocols when needed.
- Interdepartmental Collaboration:
- Serve as a liaison between departments, law enforcement, and governing bodies when necessary.
- Support emergency surgery facilitation with the Operating Room (OR) and procedural teams.
- Actively round on nursing units, assisting with escalated issues.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Licensure & Certifications:
- Active Montana RN license.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS (AHA required).
- Experience:
- 5 years of acute care nursing experience with diverse clinical exposure.
- Trauma-related education (2 hours annually).
- Stroke training (6 hours annually; NIHSS counts for 3 hours).
- Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous supervisory/management experience.
- Critical care or emergency department experience.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification.
