THE ROLE
The Assistant Buyer will work closely with the Buying & Merchandising team to support the purchasing process, ensuring that our collections reflect the overall John Varvatos vision, meet customer demands, and align with market trends. The role requires a keen eye for menswear, analytical skills, and exceptional attention to detail. The Assistant Buyer will assist in all aspects of the buying process, from vendor communication and product selection to inventory management and sales analysis.
WHAT WILL I BE DOING?
- Collaborate with the Buying & Merchandising team to curate a diverse and compelling assortment of luxury menswear products, ensuring alignment with brand aesthetics and seasonal trends.
- Market Research and Trend Analysis: Stay abreast of industry trends, competitor activities, and customer preferences to identify emerging opportunities and inform purchasing decisions.
- Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels, track sales performance, and analyze sell-through data to identify slow-moving items and opportunities for replenishment or markdowns.
- Support the development of seasonal assortment plans, including product assortment, and inventory distribution across retail locations and online channels.
- Generate and manage purchase orders, coordinate with internal stakeholders and vendors to confirm order details, track shipments, and resolve any issues related to delivery or quality.
- Compile sales reports, analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), and provide actionable insights to optimize assortment, pricing, and merchandising strategies.
- Collaborate with various departments including Planning, Marketing, Production, Design, and Visual Merchandising to ensure alignment on product launches, promotions, and overall brand objectives.
- Serve as liaison between stores and corporate office by providing assistance and training information to retail partners
- Create and maintain seasonal assortment books and product knowledge for retail teams
Pay Range in NYC, NY:
Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and location
Base Salary:
$60,000 - $65,000
WHAT SKILLS DO I NEED?
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and draw actionable conclusions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and external vendors
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong work ethic and ability to troubleshoot and work well under pressure
- In-depth knowledge of menswear fashion trends, fabrics, and production processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other relevant software applications.
EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in Fashion Merchandising, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Previous experience in buying, merchandising, or retail, preferably in the luxury menswear segment
