To provide pre-registration, registration and discharge services for patien6ts in the ambulatory clinics. Overall functions include telephone utilization, insurance verification, chart preparation, cash collection activities, and lab/test preparation.
Patient Registrar Key Accountabilities
- Performs receptionist duties such as setting up appointments, pre-registrations, registrations, and discharge process in accordance with departmental standards.
- Ensures that appointments, clinic notes, and consults are mailed or faxed out in a timely manner.
- Demonstrates sound understanding of computerized registration system and manual back-up system during computer down time.
- Verifies insurance data and obtains and documents authorizations for care as required by various insurance agencies.
- Performs all cash collection procedures accurately and courteously at the time of registration.
- Follows physician written instruction at discharge to ensure appropriate scheduling of appointments and tests.
- Assists with the quality management program activities of the department in order to participate in ensuring quality goals are met and maintained.
- Knows, understands and abides by the policies and procedures of JHBMC.

Patient Registrar Qualifications
- High school diploma and 6 months of previous experience.
- Analytical skills to gather and interpret data in situations in which the information or problems are relatively routine.
- Ability to exchange information on factual matters, schedule appointments, greet visitors, explain Medical Center policies, and/or relay messages to appropriate personnel.
- Courtesy and tact when dealing with patients, visitors and medical center employees.
