Treatment Plant/ Pump Station/ Water/ Wastewater Construction Superintendent
The job involves construction of treatment plants, pump stations and other similar projects constructed by the company. Candidate must have previous experience leading field crews on treatment plant and pump station construction projects. Work will involve trades such as millwright, pipefitting, carpentry, demolition, piling, dewatering and other trades. Experience in these trades is helpful. Jobsites are located throughout South central Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia.
Construction SuperintendentDuties:
1. Your primary responsibility as a Superintendent is for the safety, production, and quality of the work. As the leader of the construction work, your duties include planning and executing work using standard procedures and communicating daily with the project manager. Report directly to General Superintendent. You must have a thorough knowledge of excavation, utility, mechanical and overall jobsite safety.You are considered a leader, who must possess the ability to manage personnel and evaluate safety and quality. You are required to follow all policies and rules of Johnston Construction Company, and to physically assist in each phase of work to be done as required.1. Provide leadership to craftsmen, subcontractors, and vendors as necessary.
2. Review subcontracts, material contracts and purchase orders. Understand scope and manage sub and vendor execution.
3. Read, identify, and understand contract drawings and submittals. Work with documents on an intranet site and manipulate as required. Review and coordinate procedures for delivery, unloading, installation and startup to optimize production.
4. Layout site work, structures, utilities, process piping and equipment installations from shop drawings and contract drawings.
5. Plan work two to six weeks in advance. Turn in Two Week Look-Ahead schedules each week. Review, understand and record estimated production goals during planning and provide feedback during execution. Verify materials and subcontractors are adequately scheduled to make production goals. Review installation procedures with Project Manager, General Superintendent and Equipment Vendors as needed to ensure productivity goals are met.
6. Communicate over and under budget items to Project Manager daily. Work to find creative solutions to improve budget issues.
7. Handle personnel issue according to standard policies of the company. Provide honest and respectful feedback to craftsmen regarding safety, production and quality. Assist in efforts to recruit, train, motivate and retain the best craftsman in the industry. Document personnel issues during course of project.
8. Provide clear direction to administrative staff as necessary to maintain a productive environment.
9. Perform standard safety procedures according to our safety manual and work with our safety manager to incorporate safe practices into the planning and execution of work.

Construction Superintendent Skills:
The position of a Superintendent requires the individual to possess the physical and mental ability to perform the following tasks for a minimum of 8 hours per day.
1. Read, interpret and execute contract documents, fabrication drawings, submittals and contracts.
2. Provide clear direction to crews.
3. Handle personnel issues according to company policies.
4. Monitor, interpret and communicate production rates and budgets to Project Management and General Superintendent.
5. Negotiate rough terrain.
6. Climb in and out of manholes, excavations, and/or other confined or enclosed spaces.
7. Climb ladders to a maximum height of 45 feet. Work at heights when necessary.
8. Carry and use trade associated tools, equipment, or material up to a weight of 95 pounds.
9. Push, pull, load, and unload tools, equipment, or materials.
10. Stand, stoop, bend, reach, climb, or walk.
11. Purchase, wear and maintain safety equipment as required by the type of work you are performing or when required by project requirements or the Safety manager. These items must be purchased/worn immediately upon employment.
12. Know how to identify, safely operate and maintain all HAND TOOLS to include: hammers, pliers, tapes, hand saws, screwdrivers, shovels, knives, levels, wrenches, digging bars, etc.
13. Know how to identify and safely operate all FUEL, AIR, and ELECTRIC SMALL TOOLS to include: pipe saws, chain saws, pumps, generators, plate tampers, jumping jacks, jackhammers, rivet busters, chipping guns, rotary hammers, clay spades, vibrators, circular saws, drills, etc.
14. Know how to identify fuels (gasoline, diesel, mixed gas), and know which fuel is used to operate each small tool and compressors.
15. Know how to identify and safely operate all GENERAL EQUIPMENT to include air compressors, arrow boards, rollers, Bidwell-Concrete Screed, gas testers, fire extinguishers, etc.
16. Know how to identify Company TRUCKS to include compressor, service, dump, plate, boom, tractor, and lowboy.
17. Know how to operate Company EQUIPMENT to include backhoes, loaders, trackhoes, cranes, skid steers, etc.
18. Posses the ability to understand, remember, and follow work related instructions or methods.
