The School Psychologist/School Psychological Examiner is responsible for assuring that the evaluation of students, including ensuring the development of the diagnostic summary, complies with all regulations. The employees are also responsible for sharing their expertise with staff as they develop and implement programs for students with disabilities.

Essential Functions:

  • Implement the district's identification and assessment procedures
  • Attend all meetings and staffings as mandated by the district's local compliance plan, and perform duties in connection with such meetings as may be requested
  • Guide and counsel diagnostic teams through the development of eligibility and placement decisions
  • Complete all testing and report writing in compliance with regulation, including timeframes
  • Counsel small groups and individual students with problems
  • Consult with teachers, staff, and parents regarding meeting the developmental needs of students
  • Refer students to appropriate community resources in consultation with their parents
  • Participate in, coordinate, or conduct activities which contribute to the effective operation of the school
  • Evaluate and revise the district's process of evaluation, in accordance with district needs and directions, and changes in regulation
  • Design, prepare for and implement a variety of effective techniques in order to successfully meet the educational, emotional, and social needs of students
  • Demonstrate competent knowledge of tests, testing, and administration procedures, scoring, and interpretation of data and use this knowledge to effectively meet the needs of students
  • Use instructional, planning, and professional development time effectively
  • Motivate students
  • Support the development of plans designed to manage student behavior and enhance student success in a variety of settings
  • Implement a process, as necessary, that maximizes the effectiveness of paraprofessionals and other support personnel
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with students, parents, staff, and other community persons who might support the child and the family
  • Maintain confidentiality and other professional obligations
  • Assume extra duties as assigned by the principal
  • Attend all meetings and conferences as directed by supervisors and perform duties in connection with such meetings as may be requested
  • Demonstrate initiative and enthusiasm toward work
  • Follow district policies and procedures of the school district
  • Implement the regulations governing the education of students with disabilities
  • Demonstrate a sense of professional responsibility
  • Carry out all other responsibilities and duties as assigned

  • Speak and hear in an environment where numerous conversations and activities may be taking place simultaneously
  • Move around the classroom
  • Read handwritten or printed material
