Summary
The Materials Manager oversees the planning, procurement, storage, and distribution of raw materials and components to ensure the business meets its operational and production goals, including supplier cost, quality, and schedule attainment targets. This role requires effective management of inventory to support production needs while maximizing inventory turns.
The Materials Manager is responsible for providing leadership to the inventory control and cycle count teams, in addition to the purchasing manager and buyers. The Material Manager will deliver process efficiencies and will ensure team members have the appropriate skillsets for their roles, are effectively trained on their positions, and are given tools to success. The Materials Manager will establish metrics to ensure continuous improvement in all related areas. The Materials Manager will work closely with and support the Plant Managers in the Business to achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Productivity metrics. The Materials Manager will be accountable to the TBD of JSI for Business outcomes and to the LSI SVP of Procurement & Logistics for Functional alignment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Inventory Management:
· Leads and directs inventory teams, including inventory managers, cycle counters, etc. Can step into these roles, as needed, to support activities during absences or job vacancies.
· Monitor and maintain inventory levels to ensure the availability of materials while maximizing turns and minimizing excess and obsolete inventory.
· Implement inventory control processes and procedures to accurately receive, transfer, track, and report stock levels.
2. Purchasing Management:
· Leads and directs purchasing teams, including purchasing managers and buyers. Can step into these roles, as needed, to support activities during absences or job vacancies.
· For supplier relationships supported by LSI Strategic Sourcing Team, manage effective “tactical level” of relationships to ensure cost, quality, and delivery targets with suppliers are met. Support supplier evaluations and correction actions.
· For commodities and/or suppliers not supported by LSI Strategic Sourcing Team, use LSI standards to identify, negotiate, evaluate, and select suppliers and then manage effective relationships to meet cost, quality, and delivery targets. Lead supplier evaluations and correction actions.
3. Material Planning and Scheduling:
· Own the SIOP (Sales, Inventory, Operations Planning) process for JSI. Ensure historical baselines plus forecasted projects are used monthly as “inputs” to the planning process. Ensure the “outputs” (required inventory quantities and headcount with timing) are carried to the Operations and Procurement teams, respectively. Raise flags to any issues to both sales and operations/procurement.
4. Logistics and Distribution:
· Manage the flow of materials, including receiving processes, storage expectations, intercompany transfers, and shipping to ensure timely delivery to internal and external customers.
· Optimize transportation and warehouse processes to reduce costs and maximize efficiency.
5. Cost Control:
· Identify cost-saving opportunities within the materials management process.
· Monitor budgets and ensure financial efficiency in material procurement and handling.
6. Team Leadership:
· Lead and train materials management staff to enhance performance and productivity.
· Foster a culture of continuous improvement and collaboration within the team.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Leads and directs inventory teams, including inventory managers, cycle counters, etc. as well as purchasing teams, including purchasing managers and buyers.
Qualifications/Skills and Abilities
Education: Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, logistics, business administration, or a related field.
Experience: 10 years of experience in materials management, inventory control, or supply chain operations of high-volume MRP business with 5 years leadership responsibilities. Related certifications such as APICS CPIM/CSCP or NAPM CPM are a plus.
Skills:
· Strong knowledge of MRP software environments
· Excellent negotiation and vendor management techniques
· Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Results oriented.
· Excellent organizational, time management, and presentation skills
· Proven success leading and building teams
· Proficient user of Microsoft 365 programs, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $81,918.00 - $87,146.00 per year
