POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Volunteer & Community Engagement will oversee the overall volunteer strategy and implementation of volunteer processes at JA North. This position supports the Development and Program departments by leading the Volunteerism team that prospects, recruits, and supports all volunteers for JA North educational experiences. This position supervises and supports the organization and coordination of the volunteer experience. This includes pre, during, and post experiences– with a particular focus on volunteer stewardship and retention. The Director of Volunteer & Community Engagement will work closely with the Chief Operations Officer on the organization’s volunteer vision and strategy and will help support a culture of volunteer engagement across the organization and in our community and region. Overall, this position will create resources and strategies to increase volunteer participation, retention, and engagement.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Works closely with the senior team to set and implement a visionary and compelling approach to JA North’s volunteer strategy.
• Leads the full volunteer team in implementation of our volunteer strategy including prospecting, recruiting, supporting, stewarding and retaining our volunteers.
• Responsible for meeting aggressive goals for volunteer recruitment that keep pace with our growing programmatic volunteer needs.
• Grows and cultivates relationships with key groups that provide volunteers including, but not limited to, businesses and corporations, higher education institutions, K-12 school staff and families of students, and individual volunteers.
• Manages and grows a diverse portfolio of key partners that provide volunteers for our JA Programming, with a particular focus on high-level corporate partners.
• Works with the Chief Operating Officer to support JA North’s Partnerships/Volunteer board committee.
• Creates a strategy for JA North to collaborate with other volunteer-focused organizations to elevate and invigorate volunteerism in our community.
• Partner with JA North’s Events Manager and the volunteer team to lead in the organization and hosting of volunteer appreciation events and recognition programs
• Knowledge and commitment to diversity and inclusion

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: **

The Director of Volunteer & Community Engagement supervises two Volunteer Managers and works closely with our Development Operations, Communications & Marketing, Fundraising, and Program teams. A data management team supports this position.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 5 years of demonstrated success managing partner relationships that include volunteer recruitment and stewardship programs.
• Possess exceptional relationship building and influencing skills, as well as strong communications skills.
• Committed to quality and integrity and the ability to work with cross-functional teams
• Strong commitment to team and mission.
• Literacy in Microsoft Office suite.
• Volunteer database experience.
• Proven ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
• Proficient computer skills, especially Microsoft Teams.
