Summary:
We are seeking a Journeyperson Laborer to join our team for a disaster recovery project in Southern California lasting six months or more. While the Journeyperson Laborer position typically requires a DIR certificate and a registered apprenticeship number, this specific project does not require them. The ideal candidate has experience working in disaster recovery environments, assisting equipment operators with property cleanup and restoration in challenging outdoor conditions.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Work as a laborer on a team with heavy equipment such as excavators and skid steers for disaster recovery restoration.

  • Sort various debris and assist with cleanup efforts.

  • Operate a chainsaw, use a shovel, and safely lift and load materials for transport.

  • Collaborate closely with crew members to achieve project goals and meet deadlines.

  • Report any issues promptly to the supervisor.

  • Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and regulations.

  • Perform additional on-site tasks as needed.


Qualifications:

  • Journeyperson Laborer experience preferred, but this project does not require a DIR certificate or apprenticeship number.

  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as a laborer, preferably in disaster recovery or heavy civil construction.

  • Proven ability to work in remote locations and challenging outdoor conditions.

  • Current HAZWOPER training certificate or willingness to renew.

  • Must complete a hazmat physical and pass an exam.

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to push and pull with hands, arms, and feet repetitively.

  • Must have good visual and auditory capabilities to manage sight and sounds in a hazardous construction environment.

  • Able to push, pull, climb, sit, and stretch regularly while performing essential job functions.

  • Able to be alert and cognitive of multiple concurrent activities on a construction site.

  • Ability to work around loud noises.

  • Coordination between hands, eyes, and feet to guide equipment and objects.

  • Must be able to mount and dismount safely off vehicles and equipment.

  • Must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.

  • Must be able to walk on uneven terrain.

  • Able to lift 50 to 80 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required: close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

  • Regular exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and challenging terrain.

  • Work in a hazmat suit and gear in a disaster recovery fire area site.


Work Environment:

  • Outdoor work in various weather conditions.

  • Exposure to challenging terrains and loud noise.

  • Exposure to fumes, odors, gases, soot, ash, dust, etc.

  • Exposure to all elements of nature on a regular basis.


Travel:

  • Willingness to travel to job sites in Southern California and stay near the job site for six days per week.
