What are the responsibilities and job description for the SUPERVISOR-TRIAL DIVISION COURT SERVICES position at Kalamazoo County Government?
GENERAL SUMMARY
The purpose of this job is to manage, direct, analyze, and guide the daily operations of the Trial Division of Circuit Court to maintain procedural consistencies, compliance with court rules and statutes, and provide quality, timely, and efficient customer service to all persons conducting business with the court.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Oversees, manages and directs the day-to-day operations of the trial court division, which oversees case management of criminal cases, civil cases, personal protection orders, and varying appeals.
- Monitors the payment of witnesses and oversees the forfeiture of cash and surety bonds; oversees the appointment of court-appointed appellate counsel; analyzes and maintains the master list of approved bondsmen for the County.
- Manages the coordination of the jury qualification and selection process; forecasts, projects, and calculates the number of jurors needed for all County Courts monthly; oversees the reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating juror questionnaires for qualification.
- Oversees and manages the processing of juror payroll; prepares and submits semiannual jury reimbursement reports and juror yield reports to the State.
- Analyzes pending caseload statistics for compliance with State time guidelines; monitors the accuracy of records submitted to the Michigan Department of State, Michigan State Police Records Division, and State Court Administrative Office.
- Perform related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field
- 5 to 7 years of related work experience in legal personnel management
- Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities
