The Education and Outreach Coordinator will be responsible for expanding KAN-WIN’s outreach within the Asian immigrant, Asian American, and other underserved communities, as well as supporting internal and external education efforts. Responsibilities
Outreach and Education
- Work with the CET Lead to develop an outreach and education plan to promote awareness of KAN-WIN’s programs and services
- Facilitate and co-facilitate workshops and trainings to community groups
- Conduct outreach to immigrant communities and social groups (churches, temples, ethnic businesses, ethnic media), including investigating new and creative strategies for sustained community engagement and education
- Develop and maintain on-going relationships with referral services and institutions (other social service organizations, universities, religious institutions, etc.)
- Assist in coordinating public activities and events to enhance public awareness of gender-based violence issues
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation of KAN-WIN’s outreach and education activities
- Organize biannual 40-hour domestic violence services training, including securing speakers to cover topics and facilitating sessions when possible
- Organize and facilitate workplace sexual harassment and bystander intervention training
- Organize and facilitate 1-hour domestic violence cosmetologist training
- Issue and maintain organized records of certifications issued
- Brainstorm ways for volunteers to participate in KAN-WIN’s community engagement work
- Serve as the point person for communications with volunteers
- Onboard, train, and coordinate volunteers as needed for KAN-WIN events
- Help staff the 24-hour multilingual hotline and provide callers with crisis intervention, safety planning, information, and referrals, etc. This involves coverage during office hours and some occasional evenings and weekends.
- Provide assistance to the direct service team for case management for survivors, if ever needed, for urgent situations.
- Work as a team with other staff members to provide services in a holistic manner.
- Keep service data on InfoNet and Apricot, and collect and maintain other relevant data for program service delivery and grant responsibilities.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely records, reports, and files.
- Participate in at least one non-direct services organizational committee to support coordination and achieve organizational goals (for activities like KAN-WIN’s virtual gala, staff retreat planning, DEI (diversity, equity & inclusion issues), staff training, etc.)
- Assist and participate in all organizational activities such as program development, fundraising, and special events.
- Participate in staff meetings and case review sessions.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
- Ability and eagerness to bridge cultural, linguistic, generational, educational and other differences
- Empathetic listening, excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong commitment to KAN-WIN’s mission, values, and goals to enhance culturally and linguistically competent services and programming for survivors
- Experience in community organizing, political education, or community engagement and education
- Hybrid working environment.
- Community education events are held across the Chicagoland area. Access to a car or convenient public transit would be beneficial.
- This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, scanners, and filing cabinets.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
