Position Summary
The Recruiter/Facilitator is responsible for identifying, recruiting, and supporting volunteer guardians and conservators across Kansas. This role ensures that qualified, trained individuals are available to serve as court-appointed guardians for vulnerable adults determined by the court to require such advocacy. Recruiter/Facilitators work closely with state agencies, service providers, and community organizations to manage volunteer placements and provide ongoing case management assistance.
This position reports to the Executive Director of KGP and requires periodic travel, strong relationship management skills, and the ability to navigate the complexities of guardianship processes.
Key Responsibilities
Volunteer Recruitment & Placement
- Recruit individuals to serve as volunteer guardians/conservators, emphasizing recruitment for complex cases and underserved areas.
- Engage in targeted outreach efforts, including professional networking, public speaking engagements, and relationship-building with local organizations and community leaders.
- Screen and match volunteers with wards based on compatibility, geographic location, and case complexity.
- Organize and facilitate "meet and greets" between volunteers and potential wards, ensuring successful matches.
Guardian & Volunteer Training & Support
- Provide comprehensive training and ongoing education for new and existing guardians, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and best practices.
- Develop and deliver workshops, presentations, and onboarding materials to support guardians in fulfilling their roles effectively.
- Conduct regular follow-ups with new guardians within 30-60 days of appointment to ensure they understand responsibilities and address concerns.
- Attend court proceedings as required to support Guardians.
- Serve as a liaison between guardians and service providers, giving guidance on case-related challenges such as financial management, healthcare decisions, and legal matters.
Case Management & Compliance
- Track and maintain records of all volunteer placements, guardian cases, and program referrals using KGP’s case management system.
- Monitor and review monthly and annual reports from guardians, flagging questions or concerns for follow-up with the guardian.
- Assist guardians with filing necessary legal documents, including notarization when required.
- Support transitions when volunteers step down, ensuring continuity of guardianship services.
Collaboration with Agencies & Service Providers
- Work closely with DCF, K-DADS, APS, and local care providers to assess and fulfill guardianship needs.
- Coordinate with case managers, nursing homes, and MCOs to ensure appropriate appointments of guardians.
- Advocate for process improvements with APS and DCF to streamline placement approvals and reduce delays.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in human services, education, communications, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities, behavioral and mental health needs, or aging populations.
- Training in volunteer management, recruitment, or program facilitation preferred.
- Strong public speaking and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse audiences.
- High level of organizational and case management skills.
- Proficiency in digital tools, databases, and spreadsheets for tracking case data.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain compliance with legal and ethical standards.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel frequently across Kansas, including overnight stays.
- Willingness to engage in extensive telephone and video communications with guardians and stakeholders.
