Job Summary:
Kauai Island Utility Cooperative is looking for a unique individual to answer trouble calls, restore service by making emergency or permanent repairs, and to work with and direct the work of employees in lower classifications as pertains to transmission and distribution of electricity.
This position requires the incumbent to be physically on-site.
Position Responsibilities:
- Works with and directs the work of employees in lower classifications assigned in performing inspection, troubleshooting and repair of transmission, distribution, secondary and service systems. Installs, removes, maintains and inspects secondary lines and services.
- Answers trouble calls from company customers during and after normal working hours. Answers fire calls to protect company property and provide for the safety of firemen.
- Inspects conditions to determine location and apparent cause of trouble by testing for grounds, locating fallen trees or testing transformers.
- Restores service by making emergency or permanent repairs, and replacing primary or secondary fuses. Operates switches and cutouts to energize or de-energize circuits. Makes minor adjustments to operating equipment. Sets equipment controls to automatic and non-automatic as directed.
- Inspects for adequate clearances between energized and de-energized equipment. Performs transmission and distribution construction work on both energized and de-energized facilities.
- Installs overhead and underground secondary circuits and customer services. Installs, reads and removes customer meters.
- Operates a service bucket truck in performing work requiring an aerial platform. Climbs poles as required in the performance of the job.
- Conducts voltage, phase and load tests of lines. Checks condition of lines, transformers, and substation equipment for abnormal voltage, overloads, and before energizing.
- Switches and parallels company and customer circuits, transmits clearance and de-energizes company and customer equipment for construction, maintenance or repairs.
- Trims trees and other vegetation as required to maintain clearances and protect company equipment.
- Responsible for having the assigned company vehicle, equipment, and tools inspected regularly to ensure safe operating conditions.
- Applies company's construction and safety standards as well as other applicable rules and procedures.
- Performs similar and incidental duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Must be a graduate of KIUC's apprenticeship program or an accredited Apprenticeship Program or possess equivalent knowledge, and have a minimum of three (3) years experience as a Lineperson.
- Must have demonstrated leadership ability and the capability of accepting working instructions to direct assigned personnel.
- Must possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Hawaii driver's license, class B (CDL).
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instruction in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
- Must occasionally lift, carry and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Excellent communication and human relations skills to work and interact with internal and external customers in a professional and cooperative manner.
Salary : $59,300 - $75,100
