Job Summary

The Clinical Pharmacist provides pharmacy oversight to ensure safe and effective use of medications for the Tribe's Health System activities. Provides guidance and supervision for on-site medication use and storage. Participates as part of clinical team for overall health system optimization.

Essential Functions

  • Monitoring drug therapy to ensure the best care possible is being given to our un'inas
  • Working at the top of pharmacy license to provide pharmaceutical monitoring, prescribing, and changes under a collaborative practice agreement or a medical executive committee approved protocol
  • Developing, reviewing, and evaluating clinical treatment guidelines and drug utilization review
  • Providing drug information and therapeutic recommendations to facility staff and prescribing providers
  • Oversight, evaluation, and making recommendations concerning drug distribution, control, and use
  • Planning and participating in facility's staff development program relating to drug distribution, control, and use
  • Establishing policies and procedures to control the distribution and administration of drugs
  • Documenting the pharmacy services that are provided and maintaining such documents
  • Coordinating with SouthCentral Foundation Village pharmacy to provide an integrated pharmacy service
  • Participating in QI and QA activities
  • Providing Medication Therapy management, chart reviews and education to un'ina
  • Advisory oversight of non-formulary, complementary and alternative, neutraceutical, or Traditional Healing compounds
  • Coordinating community pharmacy relationships and contracts
  • Participating in educational efforts for staff and un'inas via group and individual interaction
  • Supervising Pharmacy Technician including duties such as reviewing and authorizing all pharmacy technician activities, has responsibility for any delegated act performed by technicians, and ensures compliance with the regulatory and practice standards of pharmaceutical care

Qualifications

Education

  • A Doctorate degree in Pharmacy (BS for candidates who were licensed under the BS License requirement) from an accredited college program

Experience

  • Three to five years professional experience.

Preferred

  • PharmD with a pharmacy residency.
  • Experience working with Alaska Native/American Indian populations.
  • Knowledge and experience working in the Alaska Tribal Health System's Village Pharmacy Program.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge and experience working with cultural diversities

License/Certification

  • A current State of Alaska Pharmacist License or legal equivalent.

  • Familiarity with Complementary and Alternative therapeutics.
  • Ability to develop constructive and cooperative working relationships with others, and maintaining them over time.
  • Effective communication with supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
  • Providing quality customer service to patients and other healthcare providers.
  • Integrity in job performance and working in an environment of medication management.
