Job Title: English Learner Coach
Full Time, school year, 200-day contract
The English Learner Coach works to support English Learners within Kent ISD school districts. This position will work closely with the Supervisor of Special Populations and team members to provide teacher and staff coaching, instructional model support, and professional development to staff who work with the more than 15,000 English Learner students within our Kent ISD districts.
Essential Job Qualifications Required:
1. Valid Michigan teacher certification with ESL or Bilingual Endorsement (NS or Y-) - Required
2. Five years or more experience teaching ESL – Preferred
3. Master’s degree in the area of TESOL, Bilingual Education or related field – Preferred
4. Knowledge of state ELD standards and assessments
5. Knowledge of the Kent ISD Special Populations professional learning and EL Connect network - Preferred
6. Experience working with K-12 students, including LTELS, SLIFE, Refugee arrivals, and Newcomer populations – Preferred
7. Experience designing, customizing, and delivering Professional Development for teachers, school staff, and school administrators in multiple formats
8. Instructional skills and knowledge base in second language acquisition, simultaneous and sequential literacy development, and English language development
9. Knowledge and experience in effective coaching and mentoring practices and techniques, co-teaching practices and techniques, and sheltered instruction techniques
10. Knowledge of federal and legal obligations related to programs, services, communication, and family engagement for English Learners
11. Demonstrated teacher leadership skills
12. Ability to work well with ISD staff toward KISA, ISD, and LEA goals

a. Coach small groups and individual teachers using EL best practices (IES practice guides; SIOP; etc) to increase teacher effectiveness and student outcomes across EL program models and within content instruction
b. Coach small teacher groups, individual teachers, and building/district coaches in analyzing student data and subsequent instructional steps
c. Coach building and district coaches in best practices for coaching, as well as in developing their knowledge of best practices in ELD instruction
d. Maintain professional discretion with teachers and coaches
e. Continually monitor effectiveness using student data and feedback from stakeholders
