What are the responsibilities and job description for the County Police Cadet position at Kent County?
This is a Cadet position with the Kent County Sheriff's Office. The position is responsible for a variety of entry-level duties within Corrections, Law Enforcement, Detective Bureau, Training, Courthouse, Crime Scene Unit, and Community Policing. Duties may include answering telephones and greeting visitors at the Sheriff’s Office, Courthouse, and Correctional Facility; responding to a variety of questions from residents; scheduling and assisting the public with inmate visits, and assisting with professional visits; taking fingerprints for the general public; writing traffic crash reports, assisting with abandoned vehicle dispositions, and gathering statistical data on traffic situations.
Cadets can also perform ride-alongs with County Patrol Officers, assist with hosting community policing events, and apply for a yearly educational scholarship of up to $2,500.00.
Hours
Must be available to work first and second shifts. Can work up to 28 hours per week.
Please note: this position is year-round employment, not just for the summer months and class schedules will be accommodated.
Graduation from high school or equivalent and currently enrolled with an accredited college or university, or current high school senior with anticipated enrollment with an accredited college or university for the following semester (required proof of enrollment within 6 months). Must be 18-years-old at the time of hire.
Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. Must be computer literate, possess good communication skills, and have the ability to prepare oral and written reports.
Bilingual literacy in Spanish beneficial.
