Position Summary: The Branch Programming Coordinator plays a key role in overseeing the development, coordination, and execution of a vibrant and engaging range of programs and events that inspire and enrich the lives of patrons across all age groups. This role involves supervising a team of large event and programming staff, ensuring high-quality programming for diverse audiences, fostering community partnerships, and aligning programs with the library's strategic goals. Additionally, through collaboration with staff across the branches, the coordinator facilitates systemwide programming, optimizes resource sharing, and leverages staff expertise, all while maintaining a culture of innovation.
There are two positions available, one of which will be located at the Covington Branch, and the other at the Erlanger Branch.
Responsibilities:
- Actively participate on the branch management team; serves as Manager on Duty as needed; works at all service desks as needed.
- Supervise large events and programming staff including hiring, training, coaching, and scheduling.
- Ensure programming aligns with the library's strategic plan, budget, and operational priorities; develop and implement a comprehensive programming plan that meets the educational, cultural, and recreational needs of the community.
- Oversee the development, promotion, and execution of library programs across all age groups. This includes but is not limited to generating ideas, securing presenters, and running events.
- Create programs through various methods including developing relationships with publishers and local bookstores and keeping abreast of regional, cultural, and news events.
- Ensure compliance with library policies and procedures, as well as safety and accessibility standards for events.
- Work collaboratively with staff from other branches to coordinate systemwide calendar, programming and resources, in order to avoid competing events.
- Provide monthly reports to the branch manager. Analyze attendance, engagement, and feedback to assess program success and make improvements.
- Oversee and coordinate services to educational facilities not serviced by the Outreach Department.
- Serve on systemwide committees, including but not limited to the Summer Reading Club steering committee. Coordinate Summer Reading Club activities in the branch.
- Actively advocate for and promote library services.
- Work with Public Relations Department to effectively and creatively promote events in a timely fashion. Support public relations initiatives and outreach opportunities.
- Media appearances, including but not limited to TV interviews, are required.
- Serve on councils, boards and committees. Present at the local, state and/or national level.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Relevant experience in event planning or program coordination, with an educational background that supports the role.
- MLS candidates will be eligible for an enhanced benefits package.
- Current Kentucky Department of Library and Archives certification or ability to obtain certificate.
- Demonstrated leadership, administrative, budgetary, process management practices and customer relations experience.
- Experience in training, supervision and development of staff.
- Ability to collaborate effectively, maintain strong organization and efficiency, and set clear objectives.
- Demonstrated ability to manage, oversee, and monitor branch programming ideas and suggestions while implementing system vision.
- Knowledge of available library collections in all formats and material for all ages.
- Knowledge and experience with literature, programming, and pop culture trends.
- Must be flexible and readily adaptable to change and innovation.
- Willingness to become a notary or passport agent a plus.
- Experience using Windows-based PCs and software; familiarity with MS Office products (particularly Word and Excel) and Canva; ability and willingness to learn, adapt to and teach new technologies.
- Interpersonal skills to work with the public and coworkers in a positive, professional manner.
- Must have a sense of humor.
- Reliable transportation to perform job responsibilities.
- Must be able to bend, kneel, reach, climb and retrieve items weighing up to 30 lbs.
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. and push or pull book trucks weighing 20-50 lbs.
