Minimum Knowledge and Experience:
- College degree preferred; five years accounts payable experience in a high-volume environment
- Proficiency in using automated accounting software (D365 & Great Plains experience) and related office equipment
- Possesses general accounting knowledge, knowledge of payment processing, good organization, accuracy, and reliability
- Understands accrual process
- Must have knowledge of the full cycle Accounts Payable process
- Previous supervisory experience required
- Ability to reconcile vendor accounts
Skills:
- Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Communicates effectively and efficiently, good telephone voice
- Maintains confidentiality
- Detail-oriented, with proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines
Key Accountabilities (Essential Job Duties):
- Demonstrates understanding and adheres to the KCS principles of Employee Engagement, Operational Excellence, Safety & Security, and Economic Performance
- Enters vendor invoices for payment processing
- Oversees daily Accounts Payable department activity
- Assists staff with processing and vendor inquiries, complaints at a supervisory level
- Supports AP Manager with Audit processes
- Compiles and sorts documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions
- Verifies invoice charges by comparison to purchase orders and receiving documents
- Reconciles differences by analysis of supporting documents and discussion with ordering department and vendor as necessary; obtain management approval as needed
- Utilizes computer software following prescribed procedures
- Prepares weekly list of payables for management approval; support other accounting projects as needed
- Maintains appropriate cash disbursement records including detail
- Disburses ledger and sources documents
- Prepares invoice accrual spreadsheets for month end close, and periodic reports as required
- Performs related accounting functions
- Notifies manager of payment discrepancies
- Completes other duties as assigned

- Attends and participates in all assigned training, specifically safety and security
