Job Description
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Supervisor, performs duties in order to ensure an orderly and safe pool and facility environment.
Examples of Duties
- Enforce facility rules during swim classes and recreational use of the pool.
- Respond to emergency situations following pool procedures and using American Red Cross Lifeguard methods.
- Assist in performing light maintenance to maintain a clean and orderly pool area and facility, including pool vacuuming.
- Perform DEC requirements, including water chemistry tests and maintain records of results.
- Maintain facility order in pool and surrounding areas.
- Perform custodial services to maintain a clean and orderly facility.
- Perform CPR and/or first aid, as needed.
- Provide instruction to other employees of this or a similar job classification in all aspects of procedure and technique relating to the duties required by this job description unless such instruction requires a specialized certification which the employee doing the training does not have.
- Perform other related duties as directed by the Aquatics Supervisor.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of water safety and rules of conduct for users of water facilities. Good interpersonal skills, enjoy working with the public, and ability to respond to emergency situations and determine appropriate course of action using established procedures and common sense.
- Must be able to hear.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch; and taste or smell. Each of the listed activities also requires standing , sitting, walking, and climbing on stools and ladders.
- Strong swimming skills; water rescue of children and/or adults of all ages and sizes; performing CPR and first aid; custodial duties including sweeping, mopping, bending, and stooping; using and moving water equipment, including chemicals weighing up to eighty (80) pounds.
Requirements
LICENSES:
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification or Ellis Lifeguard Certification
- First Aid certificate
- CPR certificate
- Must be 18 years of age.
- Must have high school diploma or GED equivalent.
