POSITION SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for facilitating swimmer safety through the performance of lifeguarding duties at the aquatics facility used by YCHC.
This position requires compliance with Health Center’s compliance standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Compliance Program, and policies and procedures. Such compliance will be an element considered as part of the position’s regular performance evaluation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Enforces pool rules and regulations.
- Assists in maintaining the cleanliness and proper function of the facility.
- Registers patrons for classes and programs.
- Collects money, makes changes, and operates cash register.
- Provides patrons with information and assistance.
- Inspects facility and reports unsafe conditions.
- Completes incident and accident reports.
- Participates in Lifeguard training exercises.
- Responds to water emergencies and performs water rescues.
- Delivers CPR and first aid as needed.
- Performs related duties.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITES:
- Knowledge of pool safety guidelines.
- Knowledge of water rescue techniques.
- Knowledge of pool maintenance and safe operation standards.
- Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
- Skill in the provision of water rescue services.
- Skill in the completion of reports.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed on a pool deck and in an aquatics facility. The employee is exposed to noise and irritating chemicals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent, and specialized training including completions of required aquatics certificate program.
- Less than one year of experience performing duties as a certified lifeguard.
- American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification; and, American Red Cross Lifeguarding and First Aid certification.
- Must successfully pass a criminal and background check, and a pre-employment drug screen.
