Position summary:
The Assistant Teacher will support the implementation of curriculum in a safe, healthy and nurturing classroom environment that supports each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth and development. The primary objectives of the Assistant Teacher are to: (1) Support children’s social emotional development through positive/conscious discipline, (2) Provide children with attentive relational care and education, (3) In collaboration with the Lead Teacher, create developmentally appropriate learning opportunities rooted in play and children’s interests, and (4) Design and maintain an inspiring educational environment that is both engaging and soothing. The Assistant Teacher reports to the Lead Teacher.
Essential Responsibilities:
- With the support of the Lead Teacher, seek to identify children’s interests and experiences from recorded observations in the form of anecdotal notes.
- Maintain a safe classroom environment based on safety standards set by Endeavor and state licensing.
- Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the developmental levels of the children.
- Take initiative to make the school an effective and meaningful experience for the children and families, adapting to their individual needs.
- Model effective and professional classroom management practices rooted in positive or conscious discipline, redirecting children appropriately.
- Consistently use responsive and engaging instructional strategies.
- Demonstrate behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible, exhibiting good attendance and punctuality.
- Communicate effectively with children, parents, fellow staff and school leaders.
- Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationships with each child’s family and encourage their involvement in the school.
Experience and Education:
- CDA preferred, but not required
- Experience in Early Childhood Education in a certified child development center.
- High School Diploma or GED
