Description:
Mental Health Specialist provides a variety of mental health services in support of children, adolescents and transitional aged youth including case management, prevention/early intervention mental health and wellness services, and linkage to appropriate services when a need for additional services or higher level of care is determined to be necessary.
How will I contribute
- Provide mental health support services to children, adolescents in a group setting at schools and other community locations throughout the county, primarily Madera County foothill communities.
- Ability to travel to community-based locations to provide contracted services.
- Support students in developing skills to manage emotions, resolve conflict, manage anger, increase empathy, improve social skills, develop wellness tools, and crisis prevention plans.
- Communicate, consult with, and develop partnerships with a variety of organizations/agencies to attain and utilize needed services for students and their families.
- Provide outreach services to children, adolescents and their families to assure continuity of mental health services/care.
- Observe and assess program participants’ need for additional social or mental health services.
- Serve as liaison between participants and community providers to insure linkage to appropriate services.
- Coordinate mental health care interventions and referrals.
- Collaborate with community partners to increase community awareness of suicide prevention and available mental health services in the county.
- Plan and participate in community outreach events.
What I bring
- Bachelor Degree in mental health, human services, social work, psychology, or related
- Knowledge of symptoms and behaviors of mental illness; basic social rehabilitation, socialization and practical life management skills; principals and methods of interviewing, counseling, crisis intervention and assessing psychosocial behaviors; strength based and cultural appropriate services
- Ability to deal with emotionally intense situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
