This is a 9-month faculty position (174 days) responsible for designing and implementing learning strategies for students in the Criminal Justice program. This position plays a substantial role in reviewing and maintaining the integrity of the curriculum offered by the program. Additionally, a 9-month faculty member will participate in college activities and committees and other duties, which support the mission and initiatives of the college.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESTo perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential duty. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Instructional responsibilities require a broad-based knowledge of the criminal justice system. This individual will develop, prepare, and teach criminal justice courses within the program, as well as being responsible for organization, continuous review, planning, development, and general effectiveness of curriculum experiences for students enrolled in the program. A criminal justice instructor helps students to develop the knowledge and skills needed to pursue careers in law enforcement, corrections, law, the court system, and nonprofit or social work. In addition, instructors can prepare students for positions in human service areas in professional and government settings and provide job training to employees of nonprofit or law enforcement agencies, correctional facilities, or the court system. This faculty member will also be responsible for advising and recruiting students, orienting and recruiting adjunct faculty, and collaborating with business and industry partners to provide necessary training and education. Responsible for designing and implementing learning strategies for students.Teach generally between 44 and 45 credits per annum (across three terms) at an approximate class size of twenty-four students per section across the entire year for online, face-to-face, and HyFlex lecture and lab courses.Broaden the criminal justice program and to meet the needs of the local law enforcement service community.Provide leadership through curriculum development of additional criminal justice courses and/or revision of current courses as needed.Review and select appropriate textbooks for each course.Recruit faculty to teach courses. Work with the local law enforcement service community and CJA Advisory Committee, which provide information necessary for the growth of the program.Be informed of activities at the state level that directly impact the CJA Program and the community college.Work with continuing and professional education to develop and conduct training.Coordinate inter-agency agreements and tuition credit waivers.Manage and monitor educational requirements for testing and certification.Participate as a faculty member in college governance, advisement of students, and college committees.Document modifications based on assessment results.Cultivate a variety of teaching styles in order to provide quality learning experiences to a diverse student population.Post and maintain five scheduled student conference hours (office hours) a week.Establish instructional standards in accordance with Academic policies and inform students of such standards and policies in writing (e.g., syllabus).Review and update course outcome guides and syllabi in cooperation with others.Modify teaching style based on assessment results, professional development experiences, and evaluation feedback from students, peers, and administrators.Play a substantial role for reviewing and maintaining the integrity of the curriculum offered by the discipline/program.Maintain certificates and/or licenses necessary for employment eligibility.Maintain acceptable standards of conduct for the profession.Acquire new skills for program/discipline enhancement and development.Participate in professional development activities which will lead to effective student learning.Will participate in college activities and committees; and other duties which support the mission and initiatives of the college.Participate in evaluative process for self, department, and program.Participate in departmental or discipline specific meetings to provide guidance and subject matter expertise in the furtherance of the college’s strategic and academic plans including accreditation. Attend and contribute to assigned committees on an advised and consent basis. Participate in faculty workshops and other college professional growth opportunities tied to teaching, assessment, and other essential duties.Work with high schools to facilitate dual credit/dual enrollment opportunities.Work with four-year colleges and universities to facilitate articulation.Attend commencement and other college sponsored programs as requested.Promote the College mission, values, and vision.NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESOther duties as assigned.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLEDemonstrate strong computer skills and commitment to the use of technology in instruction.Experience with Canvas LMS preferred.Teaching experience in mixed instructional modalities, including face-to-face, online, and HyFlex, which refers to classes that are a combination of face-to and online.Strong ability to communicate clearly, effectively, and professionally in oral and written formats, including effective presentation skills.Proficient with general office skills.Possess knowledge of a wide range of teaching and learning theory. Teaching experience in a community college preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONSFrequently moving from stationary sitting positions to standing and walking.
