POSITION OVERVIEW
This grant funded, 40-hour workweek is a seasonal duration employment opportunity, which is expected to be active from April through August for the next 2 years. Actual start dates will be dependent on weather and other considerations.
This position will work under the general supervision of the Fire Marshal and coordination with the Community Risk Reduction Coordinator (CRRC). The Community Risk Reduction Technician (CRRT) will perform a variety of tasks in an overall effort to reduce hazardous fuel loads within the district. These duties include but are not limited to; conducting defensible space assessments, assist with the district's community risk reduction trailers and wood chipper programs, assist patrons with wildfire mitigation, and assist with maintain accurate records. Represent the district and promote mitigation efforts within the community; public education; and other related duties as assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities and duties may vary but the essential job duties will include the following:
- Recommends community risk reduction action plans for resolution of identified vulnerabilities;
- Maintains a complete record of public education activities.
- Assists in the Community Risk Reduction efforts of the District.
- Wildfire mitigation on properties. Includes tree and limb thinning, pruning and vegetation removal.
- Performs duties in accordance with KCFD1's work rules, performance management plans (PMP), SOG's and guidelines.
- Demonstrates professionalism and a positive attitude during public interaction that shows support for the District and the incorporated city and unincorporated areas of the County served by the District.
- Maintains harmonious work environment with coworkers through strong interpersonal skills; shows commitment to policies, goals and objectives of the District.
- Ability to maintain composure, work cooperatively and professionally, and think clearly under stressful situations involving the public, as well as co-workers.
- Promotes good public relations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
This position can be physically demanding, requiring good health and physical condition to adequately perform job duties. Employee uses appropriate Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). The applicant must be able to be on their feet for extended periods of time and lift objects frequently up to 10 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds. This position will utilize chainsaws, weed eaters, thinning and pruning tools and equipment. He or she must have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; understand the community, organization, and operations of the District; work cooperatively with citizens, community groups, business interests, other District employees, and federal, state, and local agencies.
JOB CONDITIONS
The work schedule may be eight (8) hours per day, five (5) days per week, or ten (10) hours per day, four (4) days per week for a total of 40 hours. The Fire Marshal may authorize variations of the scheduled 40-hour work week. Occasional evening and weekend work is required for meetings or special projects. Overtime pay or compensatory leave is provided for all hours worked outside the normal 40-hour work week.
It is the attendance standards of the employer that all employees are present and on time each shift they are scheduled to work. Unauthorized full or partial absence during any scheduled shift, arriving late, or leaving early, for whatever reason, may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Time off may be approved if allowed by applicable policies covering illness, injury, or other personal emergency.
Job requires the use of office equipment including, but not limited to, computers with Microsoft Office, fire-based reporting and staffing programs and internet; tablets, telephones, cell phones, two-way radios, pagers, copy machines and fax machines.
This position requires use of KCFD1 vehicle.
The work environment may include indoor and outdoor stations, residential, commercial, and industrial settings, near moving machinery and traffic.
All types of weather conditions may be encountered, including temperature extremes, wet, dry, hot and below freezing weather, during day and night.
Noises levels from: quiet office setting to high levels.

- Proficient in computer applications related to the work including Windows, Word, Outlook, Excel.
- Ability to take and edit photos and videos.
- Knowledge and experience of the techniques needed for dealing with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds, in person and over the telephone to communicate fire safety concepts.
- Knowledge of defensible space and wildfire mitigation.
- Knowledge and ability to use and maintain power and manual tools.

- Ability to prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials and maintain accurate records and files;

Shall maintain a current driver's license valid in the State of Oregon.
This position shall be responsible for any additional administrative or operational duties and such other duties as may be required by their supervisor.
TRAINING PERIOD
Training and new employee orientation is expected to take approximately 1-2 weeks for a fully qualified employee to become accustomed to the specialized fire service terminology, processes, driving a risk reduction trailer, and statistical data reporting systems unique to KCFD1. The required probationary period for a new employee does not apply to a seasonal position.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Consideration will be given to any combination of education and experience that would reflect meeting the qualifications and provide the ability to successfully perform the duties of the position. Equivalent or additional education, experience, and certifications from other states or agencies may be considered. Certifications and licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.
