Term February 7, 2025 - June 30, 2025 (808 hours) with a possible one (1) year renewal term
Location: The work will be conducted on-site with the Department's OIT in the Carlton Building at 501 South Calhoun Street, Tallahassee, Florida.
The Department's OIT is seeking the services of an experienced Documentation Specialist/Technical Writer under the working title Technical Writer.
Scope of Work/Job Characteristics: The Documentation Specialist will serve as the principal line of communication for the project team. The duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:
- Responsible for the creation and maintenance of IT documentation;
- Translate technical or complicated information into clear, concise documents for various audiences;
- Work with the Development Quality Assurance and Technical Support teams to produce technical publications, including instructional materials, technical manuals, and product documentation for use by both IT and the business community;
- Review, critique, and edit documentation, including design documents, programmer notes, and system overviews;
- Interview subject matter experts and technical staff to collect information, prepare written text, and coordinate layout and material organization;
- Research information such as drawings, design reports, equipment, and test specifications to fill any gaps;
- Lead or assist in business requirement gathering sessions Joint Application Development (JAD);
- Work closely with customers, stakeholders, and IT software developers to document business requirements;
- Develop As-Is, To-Be, and other required business analysis documentation;
- Develop and lead the implementation of business process improvement recommendations;
- Maintain all project artifacts in accordance with Program Management Office (PMO) standards and other documentation as needed to ensure compliance with Chapter 60GG-1, Florida Administrative Code (F.A.);
- Responsible for the maintenance of the internal documentation library, providing or coordinating special documentation services, and the oversight of special projects;
- Serve as a liaison with users;
- Follow a standard set of practices that ensure the integrity and quality of project artifacts;
- Manage expectations of diverse stakeholders and provide regular briefings to executives;
- Work independently as part of a larger cross-functional team;
NOTE: This position is designated as essential staff and is expected to report for duty when instructed to do so in times of emergency or potential emergency as required by section 33-208.002 (4), Florida Administrative Code (F.A.C.)
NOTE: Any successful Candidate with access to the Department's network is required to complete the Department's Security Awareness Training within 30 calendar days of hire.
