PRIMARY PURPOSE AND FUNCTION
This position prepares cost estimates by analyzing requests for proposals (RFPs). The estimator calculates the value of material and work to be performed and submits this detailed packet to customers. Klute submits thousands of unique proposals every year, with a variety of customers and requirements, critical thinking is essential to complete each one. Working within the estimator team, the process allows individuals to grow to create increasingly more complex bids and tackle expanded responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare an estimate submission by gathering proposal requirements, blueprints, specifications, and related documents into an organized package. Using this data, calculates labor, material, and time requirements using standard metrics.
- Work with Purchasing to procure materials. Obtains bids from vendors and subcontractors by specifying materials; identifying qualified subcontractors; negotiating price.
- Communicate directly with the customer in the planning, procurement and estimation of the project. Coordinate and manage timelines and deliverables.
- Resolve discrepancies by collecting, arranging, and analyzing information. Present prepared estimate by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
- Maintain quote repository by organizing and backing up data.
- Maintain cost keys and price master's information.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Education: Degree in higher education in a construction related field, preferred but not required.
Experience: Previous work experience is preferred but not required.
SKILLS
- Execution in Tekla Power Fab, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel and Word, Salesforce
- Read and interpret structural steel blueprints and specifications
- Communication and organizational skills
- Attention to detail
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to view computer monitors for extended periods of time
- Frequent alpha/numeric keyboarding
