The Knox County Department of Job & Family Services is seeking a full-time Maintenance Repair Worker 1 . An MRW1 is responsible for mowing, trimming and maintaining county grounds; basic maintenance duties with regard to upkeep of office and workshop environments; and provide custodial services within buildings.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Under the direction of direct Supervisor or lead worker: Perform landscaping functions such as, but not limited to, mowing, trimming, weeding, and mulching. Perform minor repair and general maintenance of mowing equipment and tools used in grounds maintenance. Plow snow from parking lots and driveways using a truck and plow. Removes snow and ice from walkways and driving surfaces with shovels, plows or snow blowers; uses ice melt to keep sidewalks clear and free from ice; checks and stocks supplies as needed.Perform custodial duties in county buildings including sweeping, mopping, stripping/waxing floor surfaces, cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and common areas, restocking restrooms and common areas with supplies.Oversee non-county employed WEP workers involved in groundskeeping and custodial duties. Perform a variety of unskilled and semi-skilled maintenance duties such as changing light ballasts and bulbs, basic plumbing, painting, drywall repair, carpentry, moving furniture, etc. Assists skilled vendors and/or county staff in a variety of maintenance repair workMaintain/repair tools, mowing equipment to assure proper and safe working order.Assist in planning work projects; complete necessary reports, forms, narratives, correspondence, and other written material as required.Pick up supplies and materials from suppliers as needed, using truck and trailer. Transport equipment off site using truck and trailer. Attends related training and participates in meetings and webinars, as scheduled. Provides culturally competent service to clients, the public, and colleagues.Other duties as assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
I. JOB REQUIREMENTSEquipment: Ability to use mower, trimmer, edger or other landscaping equipment, hand tools, power tools, vacuum cleaner, buffer/scrubber, climb ladder and other equipment necessary to perform duties. Individual uses appropriate personal protective equipment when necessary. Ability to operate a motor vehicle is required. Basic computer skills and ability to use cell phone.Critical Skills/Expertise: General knowledge of rules, regulations, and guidelines regarding landscaping practices and procedures.Ability to read and follow verbal and written instructions regarding proper use and care of power equipment and preparation, storage and proper use of cleaning agents.Operate and maneuver a truck or van to haul a trailer up to 20’ in length.Basic maintenance skills such as changing ballasts and light bulbs, basic plumbing repairs, repair drywall, paint, move furniture, etc. Ability to define and solve problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions using judgment, and analytical skills.Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and written.Basic computer skills and use of agency provided cell phone. Ability to work effectively with clients who may be upset, distraught, irate, emotionally or mentally or otherwise unable to function within reasonable range of constructive behaviors. Ability to work independently, under pressure, and to set and achieve goals. Ability to work harmoniously with others. Regular and dependable attendance. Thorough knowledge, adherence and aptitude to follow safety policies, procedures and practices.Thorough knowledge, adherence and aptitude to follow federal, state, county, and department policies and procedures, laws and regulations.Holds as confidential, all aspects of the job. II. DIFFICULTY OF WORKWork consisting of complex, varied, standardized and non-standardized tasks requiring application of numerous laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Individual must be able to professionally address and work with potentially irate customers.III. RESPONSIBILITYIndividual is given general direction from Supervisor in following established practices and clear-cut policies. Work is reviewed in the process. Errors are generally readily detected in normal course of work by standard checking resulting in little or no difficulty in loss of time to correct. Oversees non-county WEP workers to ensure work is completed accurately and timely.IV. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS Contact is with co-workers, employees from public and private sector organizations and the public. V. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENTPhysical Requirements: The physical requirements of the position include climbing a ladder, use of landscaping and general custodial/maintenance equipment and lifting up to fifty (50) pounds or one hundred (100) pounds with assistance. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standardsPhysical Activity: The physical activity of the position is fingering, talking, hearing, listening, reaching, climbing, stooping, balancing, crouching, pushing, pulling, lifting and walking. Visual Activity: The minimum visual activity of the seeing job is close to the eyes.Job Location: The minimum work conditions for the position indicate that the individual is exposed to working both inside and outside in all types of weather. Individual may be exposed to hazardous conditions such as harmful cleaning agents, chemicals, dirt, dust and body fluids.
