What are the responsibilities and job description for the COUNTY ARCHIVES DIGITAL ASSISTANT position at Knox County, TN?
Purpose of Job
The purpose of the position is to provide leadership and expertise within the Knox County Archives function to preserve and access digitized copies of permanent Knox County Government records archives.
Essential Functions
- Lead the development and implementation of policies and workflows for acquiring, managing, preserving, and providing access to digitized copies of the official records of Knox County
- Ensure accessibility of digital records by determining the appropriate intellectual organization and digital storage structure, analyzing the intellectual content of the record, and conducting historical research for the preparation of metadata descriptions
- Prepare records for digitization and physically image/scan records
- Design and manage digital record collections by establishing the metadata schema, controlled vocabularies, and exercising quality control of the software, equipment, and metadata records
- Explore, propose, and implement new tools to meet digital preservation, digital access, data management, and other digital curation needs
- Maintain written documentation, including policies, procedures, and manuals for digital procedures and workflow
- Prepare statistical and informational reports as directed by the County Archivist
Additional Job Functions
- Respond to and report immediately if called upon by local regional or central office supervisors as part of a coordinated emergency response by the Knox County Mayor’s Office
- Perform other duties as required
Minimum Training & Qualifications
Qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Archival Administration, Library & Information Science, Records Management, or related field. Two (2) year’s related experience is the entry-level requirement of the position.

Physical Requirements
This position requires the following physical abilities:
- Ability to work in a position requiring frequent moderate effort or almost continuous light activity with occasional heavy lifting of up to fifty (50) pounds
- Physically able to operate a variety of office machines
Occupational Hazards
The incumbent will be required to minimize exposure to contaminants, such as mold, smoke, dirt, and infestation when handling records. He or she will also be required to use care when lifting and carrying items of up to fifty (50) pounds to avoid possible injury to back, feet, or toes.

Salary : $14 - $20
