POSITION SUMMARY
The laboratory testing personnel performs tasks within a wide scope of laboratory functions. This position is responsible for the receipt, organization, and testing of daily patient specimens. The TP will adhere to protocols and quality measures while performing sample preparation and analyzing patient results. This position is full time and includes weekends as needed to meet the demands of current work volume.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education:
· Associate's/Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related discipline
Experience:
· 1-2 years’ experience in a laboratory environment
· Experience in biological sample preparation preferred
· LCMS experience preferred
Certification and Licensure:
· Certified as a Medical Technologist (MT), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT), Technologist or Specialist in the assigned/responsible laboratory discipline by an agency recognized by the Hawaii Department of Health State Laboratories Division.
· State license as a Technologist, Specialist or Technician, as applicable.
Required Skills:
· LCMS experience
· Analyzer/EIA experience
· Instrument troubleshooting, as needed

· Able to effectively communicate information to internal and external customers in informal settings such as one-on-one and small group situations.
Physical Demands:
· Requires manual and finger dexterity, eye-hand coordination, and corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Distinguishes and identifies color.
· Requires wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as, but not limited to, lab coats, gloves, face shields, and respiratory protection.
· May require frequent bending, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time.
· May require repetitive manual motion such as but not limited to pipetting, capping and uncapping specimens.
· May require keying intermittently for four (4) hours a day.
· May require working varied hours and days required to complete the essential functions of the position, as scheduled.
· May require frequent walking, climbing of stairs and/or driving to various locations.
· May require occasional lifting and carrying of supplies weighing up to thirty-five (35) pounds.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Assists with coordinating operations as appropriate in absence of or to assist supervisor. Assumes responsibility for special area functions.
· Advises supervisor of potential problem areas. Develops workload statistical information for staffing purposes.
· Monitors Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) programs. Compiles, records, and evaluates data and results.
· Conducts monthly facility inspection. Emphasizes cleanliness, efficiency of operation, workflow, sanitation, and good housekeeping methods. Acts as safety advisor.
· Prepares and conducts preventive maintenance program. Ensures effective, economical, and efficient use of equipment, instruments, spare parts, and supplies. Repairs and plans equipment storage as needed.
· Obtains and/or receives specimens of patients. Prepares specimens for laboratory study and/or for quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis. Carries procedures to completion. Records laboratory test results.
· Gathers, analyzes, compiles, and records data and information for routine, special, and statistical reports, and studies.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Ensures adherence to all State and Federal guidelines and regulations including compliance with CLIA, COLA, and CAP regulations
· Performs other duties as required
