GRAIN ACCOUNTING CLERK

Position Summary

Performs the accounting actions for both inbound and outbound grain accounts. Speaks with and assists customers as needed. Ensures that supplies are in place for multiple areas (postage, office, tickets, etc.). Assists the weighmaster and other positions from time to time as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conducts center accounting responsibilities, listening to and taking care of farmer accounts as needed.
  • Handles inbounds scale tickets including updates from scales, running status reports to check the application, making changes, adjusting grain prices and turning spot-bushels into hedger.
  • Updates tickets from scales; applies to contracts and removes from inventory. Generates bill of lading to release cars to railroad were applicable, and email to all. Places care information onto spreadsheets to get invoices to email to all for payment. Places all papers into rail packet.
  • Inputs purchase contacts into system after purchased and have merchandiser sign them. Mails out to customer, when received in mail, update and file.
  • Keeps customers happy whether it has to do with changes, how they want the tickets, or issuing checks when visiting.
  • Closes and prints contracts after delivery. Sends out DP bushels reminders late in the summer for what is still unpriced.
  • Updates customer files with written notice to issue joint checks when paid. Contacts banks from time to time if issue when liens need straightened out.
  • Contacts the FSA office to obtain payoff amounts on delivered grain. Issues checks accordingly.
  • Ensures that the trucker and contractor insurances are current.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Picks up and/or takes mail to post office from time to time.
  • Monitors office supply system ordering supplies as needed. Calls copier service when copier is down. Ensure that the postage meter is amply supplied.
  • Purchases and supplies bathroom and kitchen supplies; stocks each area.
  • Organizes in some instances appreciation dinners, including contacting catering, lining up a facility, purchasing supplies, setting up the room, and arranging for help.
  • Operates extra hours at times during harvest time.
  • Assumes other duties as assigned by supervisor.

No supervisory responsibilities.

Education, Experience and Licensure

A high school education or equivalent with accounting background is needed for employment. College degree is preferable. Good people orientation skills are a must. Prior experience working in a grain facility is preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk and listen. This person must be able to use a calculator efficiently. The employee is also required to occasionally stand and walk to attend meetings, and sometimes visit company sites.

Mental Demands

This position requires that the employee have the ability to read, analyze, and interpret accounting journals, and organize materials. Ability to respond to common inquiries, suggestions, and special requests is essential. Ability to effectively present financial information to senior and mid management, and employees as necessary. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Office setting with general hours of 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Some travel required for visiting various company sites and attending seminars/workshops.
