Description : Job Summary :
The Human Resource Specialist plays a critical role in managing HR functions within a unionized workplace, ensuring compliance with labor agreements, employment laws, and company policies. This position is responsible for assisting the HR Manager with labor relations, contract administration, recruitment, training, and performance management, while fostering a positive working relationship between the company and the union.
Key Responsibilities :
Labor Relations & Contract Administration
- Interpret and apply collective bargaining agreements (CBAs) to ensure compliance with labor contract provisions.
- Assist in collective bargaining negotiations by providing data analysis and contract interpretation.
- Conduct investigations and prepare documentation for disciplinary actions, grievances, and arbitration cases.
- Maintain records of union-related interactions, including grievance outcomes and labor-management meetings.
Employee Relations & Compliance
Provide guidance to managers and employees on labor laws, workplace policies, and disciplinary procedures.Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, including FLSA, FMLA, ADA, and EEOC regulations.Support workplace investigations, conflict resolution, and performance management processes.Assist in developing and implementing policies that align with both company objectives and union agreements.Recruitment, Onboarding & Training
Partner with hiring managers to recruit, interview, and onboard new employees in accordance with contractual obligations.Develop and deliver training programs for supervisors and employeesCompensation & Benefits Administration
Support payroll and benefits administration, ensuring union-mandated wage structures, overtime rules, and benefits are applied correctly.HR Data & Reporting
Maintain accurate employee records, contract changes, and labor relations documentation.Generate reports on attendance, disciplinary actions, grievances, and workforce trends.Assist with audits and HR metrics reporting to support decision-making.Requirements :
Qualifications & Skills :
Bachelor’s degree in human resources, labor relations, business administration, or a related field (or equivalent experience).2 years of HR experience in a unionized manufacturing environment preferred.Knowledge of labor laws, collective bargaining agreements, and grievance procedures.Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism in handling sensitive issues.Proficiency in HRIS systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and data analysis tools. Experience with Paylocity preferred.PHR, SHRM-CP, or labor relations certification preferred.Work Environment & Schedule :
Full-time, on-site role, supporting a 3-shift operationRequired availability outside of standard business hours to address labor issues or urgent HR matters.
