Job Position title: La Escuelita Learning Hub Program Assistant
Position description:
The program assistant will support the La Escuelita Learning Hub Director in carrying out social service programming of this shared ministry between Beechmont Presbyterian Church and Ministerio Hispano/Latino Presbiteriano de Preston Highway. The La Escuelita Learning Hub provides immigrant children with an after-school program and also extends case management support to their families. The program assistant will work with the director to connect and transport La Escuelita families with essential supportive services including dental and medical care, food pantries, therapy, legal services, eviction prevention, securing employment, emergency utility assistance, connecting with the schools, early childhood learning, and classes for parents. They will do so in a manner that embodies Christian love and compassion and cross-cultural sensitivity. This is a part-time, $20/hour, 20 hours/week position during the JCPS school year (including summer school).
Essential position tasks and responsibilities:
1) Attend weekly meetings with the director to discuss the current needs and make weekly and monthly plans for providing the needed support to La Escuelita families including transportation and accompaniment to appointments.
2) Gain familiarity with the social services that are accessible to immigrant families.
3) Communicate directly with the la Escuelita families to understand their needs, and make plans together, using active listening skills.
4) Working together with the director and with South Louisville Community Ministries and the Neighborhood Navigator program to find matches for services needed by families
5) Provide support to the director for other tasks as needed such as providing support for outings or classes for parents.
Qualifications:
· Fluency in Spanish and English.
· Ability to be a patient, consistent, caring, and trustworthy leader, and role model.
· Ability to assist families in completing applications and do scheduling appointments.
· Cross-cultural experience and willingness to learn the cultures of our students, and how to interact positively with families who have experienced trauma.
· Ability to drive and keep transportation records; adequate insurance & driver’s license required; mileage will be covered.
