Police Officer – Code Enforcement
La Jara Police Department | Full-Time | Monday – Thursday (Day Shift, Negotiable)
The La Jara Police Department is seeking a Colorado POST-certified Police Officer to join our team. This position is ideal for an experienced law enforcement professional with a strong commitment to public safety and community service.
In addition to traditional law enforcement duties, this role will play a key part in developing and overseeing the town’s Code Enforcement Program in collaboration with the Chief of Police and Town Manager. While the official title remains Police Officer, we are looking for a self-motivated candidate who is eager to take on this additional leadership responsibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce local, state, and federal laws and ordinances.
- Respond to emergency calls, criminal incidents, traffic accidents, and other law enforcement situations.
- Conduct routine patrols to monitor for criminal activity, provide a visible presence, and ensure public safety.
- Investigate crimes, gather evidence, and prepare detailed reports.
- Make arrests, issue citations, and perform other law enforcement duties as required.
- Oversee and implement a structured Code Enforcement Program, ensuring compliance with town regulations.
- Engage with the community to build positive relationships and promote public safety initiatives.
- Attend ongoing training to stay current on law enforcement practices and code enforcement procedures.
Qualifications:
- Colorado POST Certification (required).
- Experience: Minimum 3 to 5 years of law enforcement experience preferred (a combination of education and experience may be considered).
- Skills: Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Additional Requirements: Must pass a background check, drug screening, psychological evaluation, and physical fitness assessment.

Probationary Period:

Pay: $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
